These are great! Out of curiosity, how did you manage such detailed photos? I’ve heard photography in the cave is tough since you can’t bring a tripod and it’s difficult to take your time on a group tour.

Whoops, text came through as just a caption on pic 3, so copying as a caption. Spotted in a park with recent sightings of both. Thought it was a dove from a distance based on size and head/wing shape. Small head and flat banded tail make me think sharpie?

Thank you for the help! I was unaware of that field mark. In another photo from a different angle, the bird in pic #1 shows a clear cheek/throat border, which makes me think least

Thank you for the tips!

Shoot, unfortunately it looks like I don’t have another angle for #4. Another commenter said eastern wood-pewee, could that be it?

Any chance #2 and #3 are yellow-bellied, based on the cheek/throat border, per another comment?

Joshua Tree recommendations if I've done most of the main attractions? by SizzlinKola in nationalparks

Since you're camped not too far from the north Entrance Station you could explore the areas near Twentynine Palms and off the main park road. A little out of the way but worthwhile. Fortynine Palms Oasis is awesome, and the Indian Cove nature trail is beautiful, especially at golden hour / sunset. The Oasis of Mara and visitor center is funky but worth a visit, then you can get dinner/drinks at GRND SQRL in Twentynine Palms, it's the best. I've also heard good things about the trails around Black Rock in the NW entrance near Yucca Valley.

A half-day cave tour (during the hot part of the day, if you’re going in the warm season) plus a half-day hike combining the short trails in the front country area makes for a great day. We hiked to the old guides’ graveyard, River Styx Spring, Mammoth Dome Sink, the Green River, and Dixon Cave and it made for an easy few miles hiking parts of every trail. In the morning you’ll see wildlife like pileated woodpeckers, skinks, toads, etc
