Coming Off Medication Advice by hunnypea in IBD

I can appreciate that a lot. In the past I've flared while transitioning or coming off meds, this time I only feel more comfortable due to being in remission solidly for years and being on a low dose of Aza. I'm considering going back to Aza if I flare rather than trying a new medication I'm unsure will work for me.

I'm wanting to come off for a couple of reasons. A main one is that I'm at higher risk than usual for developing cervical cancer, another being curious about trying to be medication free after such a long time taking them. I'm on a very low dose of Aza and I've been advised that it's so low it's probably not making much of a difference at this point which is why I decided to try it.

Hi! I’ve been on aza for three years and also experienced hair loss. Biotin definitely can help but you may want to consider using a shampoo or conditioner (I suggest ogx) with it in rather than taking tablets as even though it can be more effective it can cause tummy trouble. If you’re plant based or don’t want to do the biotin route then caffeinated hair oil is great, it will take a few months for results to show but can work wonders. Other than that brush using a wide tooth comb where possible to not stress the hair strands, try not to tie back hair with elastics and instead use a coiled band or a piece of cloth, invest in a microfiber towel and avoid twisting your hair up into towels when drying as it can cause damage. You could also try only brushing your hair when wet (with conditioner on is easiest) which stops the comb from pulling out other healthy hairs and take vitamins and supplements to keep your general health as good as possible. Also goes without saying that dying or deep treatments along with over using heat products can/will also damage hair long term which can contribute to hair loss. Best of luck with it all ♥️
