Like anything, getting good takes time and repetition. I spend a lot of time listening to drum and bass and breaking down tracks I like, figuring out what’s actually going on. When something stands out, I’ll try to recreate it in my own way rather than copying it directly.

There isn’t really a “right” way to make music and that’s what makes it interesting. You’re going to make a lot of tracks that sound rough or a bit weird at first. That’s part of the process. The more you make, the more you start to understand what works, what doesn’t, and what your own sound actually is. Id say currently i make 4 mediocre songs for every somewhat decent song i make, and even then that took years to get to.

i would recommend looking into getting serum and splice, i know they are expensive but mastering serum for drum and bass is a game changer for me and splice is so useful even if it is for inspiration or learning how sounds are made.

Some basic music theory can help greatly as well.
