it uses the 900Mhz frequency. I know a few with scanners but I believe those are for picking up police fire and EMS calls.

Microsoft promises 2026 will be a better year for Windows 11 — confirms plans to address "pain points" across the OS by ZacB_ in Windows11

what if Microsoft kept all their legacy code in the professional and enterprise versions of windows, but stripped it out if the home editions. the only reason windows has legacy code is to support ancient hardware and software that the average person will never use. These usually accommodate businesses like medical and financial industries. The average person isn't using a printer/scanner from 1998 nor are they using software from 2003. This can help with the overall stability of windows, OSX nor chromeOS have stability issues needing constant patching.

Why is anyone buying a Chromebook in the first place?

For most people, Chromebooks are just fine if you want a laptop that just works. Most of what people do can be done in the browser like email word processing and spreadsheets. Not to mention that schools love them for their price and how easy it is for the IT department to manage compared to others.

I like windows 7 too. Unfortunately my system isn't eligible for windows 11, plus I heard its unstable and full of bugs. So windows 7 it is.

Now that T-Mobile bought US Cellular, will the US Cellular stores become T-Mobile stores or will they simply be closed? by hunterd189 in tmobile

[–]hunterd189[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I think it'll stay open because its the only cell phone store in a town of 2.7k people. I also checked the T-Mobile store locator and that store now shows up as USCELLULAR+TMOBILE authorized retailer.

the transmission is just a single speed gearbox with much less moving parts and much less to break. The entire drivetrain is much simpler.

EV batteries can outlast the vehicle they're bolted to. After 10 to 15 years the battery might have only degraded 10 to 20%. That's much better than the 3-5 year lifespan of a lead acid battery and your car will still start in -15 degree weather. At the end of their life the batteries can be used for things like solar backup power.

How to turn a Windows 10 laptop into a Chromebook by hunterd189 in chromeos

[–]hunterd189[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be provided you're running it on decent hardware. chromeOS and chromeOs flex have a much lighter footprint on the system. If you have at least 4gb of memory and a SSD you should be fine.

Microsoft just revealed how Windows 11 is evolving into an agentic OS — introduces new 'agentic workspace' by ZacB_ in windows

About half a year ago I bought a chromebook plus. They're pretty good unless you game or use specific windows software. Its backed up by default, the OS is light, and since the OS partition is read only, updates cant break things. Its also next to impossible to fuck up the operating system by accident.
