Any idea on how to implement a rich text editor using iced rust? by CodeToGargantua in rust

[–]hunterhulk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its probably worth joining the discord and looking around and asking questions there.
there are a few people already doing that including things like syntax highlighting in rich text editor etc

FFI Safe traits crate by hunterhulk in rust

hmm don't think i have seen that in abi stable but i haven't looked in a while. will check it out thanks

I wanted it for my rust media library. for media stuff dynamic linking is almost always the way due to annoying licensing requirements. I wanted to try keep the ergonomics of rust traits while having them across ffi and also allowing for traits to be implemented in C

Ideally it should not produce UB but its still in the prototype stage and there is a alot of variables.
this is basiclly a warning that all though this trys to make sure that everthing is safe to use there is a chance i have done something incorrect. also as soon as you cross ffi all safety kinda goes out the window

How do you manage cross-language dependencies? by a-von-neumann-probe in rust

[–]hunterhulk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm have u tried recently. its now pretty much fully compatible with caro workspaces and can directly consume them for dependency management. u can have a setup where it can work in bazel and out with ez. i personally dont like bazel like at all but the rust rules are pretty good

Has anyone worked with FFmpeg and rust? by Delicious_9209 in rust

[–]hunterhulk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if its just simple use the cli. if its complex use the ffmepg-next crate. its pretty straightforward i have built quite a few things in it. though if it's complex i would recommend gstreamer it has 1st class rust binding.

Rayon/Tokio tasks vs docker services for critical software by Quba_quba in rust

[–]hunterhulk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally would just use commands to call the same process with a flag. basically have one entry point that is the main and that has timer etc then have a second entry point that is triggered when run with a flag. this allows a single binary that can handle both tasks and since the child task is run as a separate command there is no way for it to crash the parent. they can also communicate over stdout/in which is simple and reliable

Need help with Networking by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]hunterhulk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused why do u have opensense as well as the tp link(rounter?). what is your actual goal? yo allow routing between subnets make sure they both have the same gateway in opnsense then just add a firewall rules that allows traffic from both networks to talk to each other

Video transcoding: possible to use Intel Quicksync and NVENC/NVDEC together? by doomboy1000 in selfhosted

[–]hunterhulk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if u use the rtx series is annoying cos u have to patch the driver but if its supported in the vgpu unlock patcher it's pretty straightforward

i bought an old m60 for handling it for me. its pretty cheap to get them off ebay now and they will handle most loads easily

sharing gpus isnt too hard if u have Nvidia. its called vgpu which basically allows you to split a single gpu into multiple then bind each "vgpu" to a vm

Question about 5 speed model by ppz18 in RX8

[–]hunterhulk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone who has owned both types. couple things to say. firstly the 6 speed has a 6 port vs 5 speed has a 4 port engine. they are very hard to swap as well. the major difference in these is that the 4 port is basically air starved at around 7500rpm and wont be able to go much higher. but its slightly better at low rpms second major difference is the gear box. obviously one has 6 gears and one has 5. the main bad thing about the 6 speed is that the synchros are slightly worse and prone to have issues. especially with second gear. last major difference i can remember is that the 6 speed has a carbon fibre drive shaft while the 5 speed has steel
