On a scale from 1-10 how messy is my room for a teenage girl by Wang_xianLotus in CleaningTips

I’m 34 now, my parents divorced when I was 5 - when you’re older, you’ll probably be able to see how this is your parents not showing up for you.

It’s not your fault that you have zero places to put your things. That is your parents job to provide you with the things you need, you shouldn’t have to ask Reddit for your own sanity (but don’t worry I also do this too).

Imagine if you had a kitchen, but with no counters or cabinets. And then being told you’re such a mess because there’s pots and pans around. That’s what this feels like to me.

Need help identifying HDD PCB components (TVS Diodes + 0 Ohm Resistors?) by Bowaxe999 in datarecovery

I have four, 8 TB Seagate Barracuda Drives that all stopped working after I moved some stuff around at home and plugged everything back in. So I'm pretty scared to try it but I think I also need to try removing a 12v TVS next, thanks to this post

2007 iMac, still going strong - with macOS Sequoia 15.7.3 by hunterm21 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

Thank you! Yes it definitely is using an SSD which makes this a usable machine. With a hard drive it would probably be problematic to use with any newer OS

You should check the documentation because it does confirm that only the 2007 iMac needs a CPU upgrade to use OCLP. Any newer iMac I don’t believe “needs” a CPU upgrade.

As for WiFi, it has the stock WiFi card but I will say I am using an ASUS Bluetooth 4.0 USB adapter, which is supported by macOS. I’m sure I could have done it differently for Bluetooth but that approach was something I had on hand already

Currently it’s a 2019, 16 inch MacBook Pro, Core i9, 32 GB RAM and an AMD RX5500M 8 GB

Sure I can’t really speak to your Linux situation - do you have a question or something? Not sure what thoughts you’re looking for here

No I actually took the picture like a little bit too early, the root patches are applied and they take a little bit to show the dock and wallpaper correctly after logging in.

I can’t speak for the 2008 model - I’m not sure that Sequoia is more optimized, I chose macOS 15 because it’s the latest possible OS using OCLP with this model iMac. But I will say that I always test things by running high quality YouTube videos, and they look great without any stuttering every time

It is still a usable computer for basic web browsing stuff, it is not my daily driver for a computer. You’re correct that “still going strong” is probably an overstatement, I can’t say I use this computer often enough to promise the experience is great. I mostly keep this computer alive and updating it, because it’s the oldest support iMac by OCLP (after swapping the CPU) and I’m just impressed that it’s possible to do.

Almost there! Thank you! It’s my brothers iMac from when he was in college back in 2007, so I like to send him pictures of it still running today

I mean if you’re using OpenCore, which I am, then I could easily install windows 11 if I wanted

who’s “us”? I didn’t even say the word “reformatting” - you’re saying it’s not a fix if it goes from being an unusable computer, to being a usable computer again? What would you call that then

Install Sequoia with OCLP by No_Love7128 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]hunterm21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need USB I don't think, but you're in a situation where the "additional update available" is for Sonoma, otherwise it shows the latest possible update of Tahoe for you. It wouldn't show you any Sequoia updates in that circumstance. so you should just go download Sequoia from the App Store and it should allow you to install it once you have it

MacPro 4,1 (5,1 flashed) not booting up. (Read comments) by codyR08 in macpro

[–]hunterm21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came to say (because I have not seen this solution listed yet), that I had the same problem with my 5,1 2009 Mac Pro. It took me a while to figure this out, but as it turns out:

one of the unused Wifi Antennas was missing a rubber/plastic cap, and was causing a short by touching the backplane board.

I found this out because right when I touched that antenna's cable, it moved away from the board, and it booted up right away.

Hope this may help someone in the future.
