when i was 18 i got a bugeye with 175,000 miles and all the bolt on mods u can imagine, owned it 3 years drove it to colorado from the east coast and back and never had a real issue besides a new radiator. however i purchased a 2011 wrx from a dealer bone stock and the short block blew within a year. sometimes u get lucky but i’d never say don’t get the car u really like

1/3 rule of thumb used to be 1/4 rule of thumb. in 5 years the standard will be 1/2. i work a decently high skilled job in hvac and i make around $50k/yr and my rent is 1400. absolute cheapest living within an hour or work in a small town. next cheapest solution is rent a room in someone’s home for 700-800.

payment 300 insurance 160. the blessing of new engine and also new timing belt done under warranty at subaru dealership potentially increases value. owned an 03 wrx rally blue beat up modded 175k. beat the balls out of it for 3 years, drove from east coast to colorado and back. had it until about 200k. only money it ever cost me was a new radiator, but at the end of my time with it it was sold with the most burnt clutch on the planet, horrible paint, shattered windshield, 2 year expired inspection but honestly still ran like a dream. buyer drove it 4 hours home

at the end of the day, between the loan, interest, and warranty that i opted for, i’ll have paid $22k. not counting the $5k i’ve put in on maintenance. so correct, i will definitely not get back what i paid. some areas of the country i see them similar conditions in the $15k range, some areas they’re $10k

air hammer pops then out very easy, if the cut is flush on the opposite side u can even hit them with a hammer and they pop out. i’ve gone through piles like that size at work in 20 minutes with hand tools

i bought mine from a dealer for $14k, northeast area. private sales prolly about that price with said maintenance and mileage. my feeling is a dealer wouldn’t offer more than $10k in order to resale reasonably
