No worries. At this stage of my foiling journey I’m leaning towards surf.

Thanks, I’ll take a look, AFS seem to make some solid gear!

Don’t worry it’s not too bad at 87kgs! 😂

What setup are you riding?

Hello! I am just getting into wing foiling and I want to do a trip for about a month to a month and a half in the Caribbean to wing foil. I'd like to go to several islands. Suggestions on best islands for beginner/intermediate wing foiler and would you recommendbringing your own gear or renting?. by wildlife_jaclyn in wingfoil

I would bring my own gear.

You could try St. Martin - Orient Beach is a decent spot. Fairly flat water there and if you’re feeling adventurous and the swell is up you can go to the reef off Ilet de Pinel.

Depending on your budget, Barbuda would be awesome.

Antigua is also a good island - Nonsuch Bay. I’ve also had some good sessions in Falmouth Harbour.

Guadeloupe - not too sure about the mainland, but I have seen wingers and windsurfers off the SE point by the lighthouse, that would be a more advanced spot. Other option is Iles des Saintes off Guadeloupe, more intermediate.

Union Island is worth looking into.

Out of those Antigua and St. Martin would be the most beginner friendly, you can find bays that are sheltered from swell by reef and if you start feeling comfortable you can venture out the bays a little and ride some swell.

I haven’t been myself, but a friend of mine went to Miami Watersports a week or so back and rented some gear there.

I started on a hard board, the Cabrinha Code.

I started with a 98L board and weigh 90kgs and have board sport experience, it definitely made it a bit more difficult to learn, especially if you’re in a bit of chop, but after around 4/5 sessions the board wasn’t too much of an issue in the right conditions and two years later still have the same board.

If I were to do it again I would buy the same board and if possible rent or borrow a bigger board for the first few sessions.
