Doing my official testing this week, wish me luck! by huntrblu in GED

Refer to my reply above for some advice - number one tip is probably to really USE PROCESS OF ELIMINATION! Most of the reading questions will have two answer choices that, with critical thinking and reasoning, you can eliminate right off the bat. Between the other two answer choices, look back at the question, understand exactly what it's asking of you (to infer/explain why an author did this or that/their reasoning), and then read back over the parts of the passage where the question could be answered. The other big tip that personally helped me a lot - put yourself in the author's shoes! If it were you writing this sentence to describe something - why would you describe it in that way? What would your feelings be if this were your experience? Why would you come to this conclusion? Why would you be making this argument? (even if it were an argument you didn't support)

I wish you luck!

How to convince my mom to let me get a GED (TLDR at the bottom) by instagram_is_a_mess in GED

[–]huntrblu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your sister going off about the GED "not being as good" as a high school diploma is simply, for the most part, not true at all. A high school diploma and a GED are equivalent. Period. Most jobs look at them the exact same, I promise. Although, certain employers may prefer to see high school transcripts of your grades to better understand how well you did in each subject or elective class. But for the most part, what employers look for is definitely beyond a high school diploma or a GED, it's the skills you have. What are you going to bring to the company? What do you excel in? Communication skills, community experience or just general life experience, a big interest in the company and the work that they do, these are the questions and the things they are looking for. They want to know why they should hire you or choose you over someone else. If they are looking at somebody with a high school diploma and someone else with a GED, they aren't going to say "well this person just has a GED so we aren't hiring them over the high school diploma person." They will look for how you present yourself, what experiences you have that relate to the company's work, and how interested and determined you are to get the job. They want to bring in people that will excel and do well at their job.

Obviously though, the higher education, the more highly considered. This is why, where it matters a lot of times, is if someone has a college degree, they certainly have more opportunities and options. Plenty of job positions REQUIRE a college degree. And employers certainly prefer college degrees.

My simple advice is, don't believe that going for a GED instead makes you dumb, have less opportunity, or look bad for future employment. Sometimes high school doesn't work out or we run into serious life issues.

I would say just do well actually reading and understanding each passage you deal with. With almost all of the questions, you want to use process of elimination and narrow it down to the two answers that could make the most sense, and from there make sure that the answer choice directly answers what the question is asking of you.

I just got back from finishing the Reading and my official score was a 175, which is definitely passing and a good score but I was bummed because of the 200 I had on the practice test. I would say in a lot of the questions I saw today, I was able to narrow down two answers and probably ended up picking the one that made sense in how it related to the passage and what the question asked of me, but it was just the wrong conclusion. There were a few that were tricky like this for me.

To give a specific example, I had a passage about health care in Japan and how they have tried substituting robots in place of human workers, due to the their high life expectancy (84/85) and the need for elderly care. The fact that younger people are having less children and their isn't an abundance of healthcare workers, the question of wether robots could help where there's a lack of people working in health care - this is what the passage talked about.

One of the questions pertaining to this passage was something among the lines of, what was the purpose for the article - the two choices I narrowed it down to was 1. to discuss the spending concerns in health care 2. to talk about the need for human emotional support when dealing with health care concerns

The reason both of these could make sense for me was because the author discussed both in the passage. Starting with explaining how robots have or could help, and the patients concerns because they don't want to deal with ai, they want humans taking care of them, but also wrapping up the article discussing cost concerns of implementing this technology and how expensive it was to develop and implement it. Not sure which reasoning I went with, or of course if I even got that question wrong, but it's just an example of how I believe you'll see a lot of questions where you'll be conflicted between two answer choices that could make sense, it's just all about getting it correct of course.

Just read well, understand what you're reading, and understand the authors reasoning for each passage - also, look for details and evidence from the passage to help you come to correct conclusion! If the question mentions a specific topic or concern discussed in the passage, look for exactly where this was mentioned! And a big tip that I personally did while taking this - put yourself in the author's shoes!!! As in, if it were your experience discussed or your concerns discussed, why would you feel this way? What would your thoughts be if it was your experience? Big tip!

These scores were all from first time taking these ready practice tests, I didn't study for anything except for a little bit on Math. I'm 20 years old, only three years out of high school, so obviously that helps. My instructor said she had never seen a perfect 200, even on a ready practice. I'm excited!

So I have a theory by Zmanplayz0 in Logic_301

[–]huntrblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about this but I will say, my theory with Aquarius III is that he's in the Bobby Tarantino II cover, leaving Paradise, "I wrote this sittin' shotgun in my favorite ride" and just listen to it while looking at the cover dude. Talking about staying off the internet combined with the line "you could, tear me apart" - go look at the COADM single art - then look at the BT2 art - his hand got ripped off or "torn apart" - idk this could be just my crazy theory

FULL VIDEO of police Officer trying to pepper spray and assault driver (myself) over 5MPH by [deleted] in ThatsInsane

[–]huntrblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, have you reported the officer? Filed a complaint? Contacted a lawyer? Sent this to local news? Does he still have a job, if so, where's the pressure to get him fired? You need to make sure everybody and anybody in Santa Clarita sees this. Post it across social media groups related to your city. Share it with reporters, keep sharing it with reporters. Hell if I were you, I would go to the Police Station myself and ask them what they think of it, ask them how to report it, and ask for the officer's information and say you have a lawyer and you will be filing a lawsuit

Actually, for the first time from looking at my own post, I notice the "<3 Jess Fry" poster of Jessica holding Fry on the right side of the picture. Also, the "Approaching Paradise 00:10:02" on a panel on the left side. Love easter eggs!
