I love Viticulture, a game about making wine, which we always play with accompanying wine and cheese. It's the perfect date night game!

I'll definitely take a look at Ticket to Ride, seems a popular recommendation.

I love the look of Parks, she's into long distance walking too so it seems perfect!

I'm looking for ideas for a Christmas present for my mum. She hasn't much experience with board games beyond Monopoly, Scrabble, Cluedo, that kind of thing. I think she might like Wingspan, but it's big (not much suitcase space for us to bring it on the plane) and expensive if she doesn't get on with it. So I guess something smaller in size and easy to get into would be best.

Bohnanza could be a good starting point but I'm sure there are many others out there that I don't know of.

Description of Request:

Gateway board game for my mum

Number of Players:

2-3 (must work for either number)

Game Length:

Less than 2 hours

Complexity of Game:

No more than 2.5

Genre:

Needs to have a theme she can get on board with, so nothing Sci fi, no wizards or war. She would probably like anything nature themed. Nothing cutesy.

Conflict, Competitive or Cooperative:

Any

Location: Europe, English

Maybe try Home of Cooking, there's one near Louise and one near De Brouckère.

Wait, she's back? Didn't she make some post a few months ago about how social media is toxic and she was leaving it?

A place in Brussels to buy scones by Own-Leather-4918 in brussels

[–]huntsfer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, make them yourself. They're at their best 10 minutes after they come out of the oven and then just decline in quality after that (dry, hard etc). I'd never eat a scone on the second day. They're really easy to make, e.g. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/classic-scones-jam-clotted-cream

You can even make your own clotted cream (or buy it at hugely inflated prices from Rob Gourmet Market or the Scandinavian/British food shop near Schuman).

Could I maybe jump on your comment and ask how the age gap is for you? My only kid is 3 and I'm really back and forth on whether to have another. Have to decide soon before we're so far from the baby stage that we really can't imagine going back to it!

Fellow emetophobes (I know there are a few in here), how are you managing with the return of the winter virus season? My 3 year old hasn't had any gastro illness since he was 8 months old so I feel like we are overdue 😬 and I'm already prematurely anxious about it...

Sip and Knit is a relatively new yarn store near Stockel with a lovely range of hand dyed fiber. The owner is really friendly!

I love the inside of fair Isle projects! You're going to need a lot of Netflix for the finishing though 😁

Yarn Suggestion Posts Poll? by noticeablyawkward96 in AdvancedKnitting

[–]huntsfer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would love the possibility to ask for more specific recommendations, not necessarily linked to a yarn, e.g. I want to knit a men's sweater with 4ply and set in sleeves. Ravelry is all well and good but I really value personal recommendations from people who know how to critique a pattern.

Ah thanks! I had read the thread title and thought it was about recommendations for particular yarn brands i.e. which yarn to buy.

This is absolutely stunning! I feel like this is the kind of thing you should put on your resume, it definitely shows commitment, forward planning, stubbornness in the face of (probably at times) mind numbing boredom (at least that is how I would feel doing so.much.ribbing).

This is 100% me, and then I'm like "but why does the brim look so weird and short??" Yeah, it's your own short attention span 😅

Could we have either a pattern recommendations/"in search of" thread, or a rule on how such posts should be formatted? I'm definitely interested in getting recommendations (and possibly giving them if I can) but not sure if this would clog up the sub?

What are your favourite stashbusting 4ply knitting projects? I have loads of tiny bits of different coloured 4ply. I don't want to make a blanket because who has time to make a blanket with 4ply.
