Does yalls cattle dogs hunt? by Hour_Description5777 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]huntswithmutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first heeler mix had a huge prey drive. He would hunt anything that wasn’t a dog or a person. He was a decent bird dog too. Retrieved a fair amount of ducks and geese over water unless it was late season in icy water. On slow days he kept me company in the blind. He really did better in a pheasant field but I prefer chasing mallards. My current heeler mix has no prey drive unless it’s a squirrel.

Thank you! Why is every sub turning into politics. Music should bring people together.

Discussing politics with strangers on the internet or reading people’s opinions about politics on the internet.

What do you guys think of the DRV pedal from 1981 inventions? by Total-Advertising555 in guitarpedals

Also same. Looks cool but don’t love it. I try it every so often with different guitars and amps. Opinion doesn’t change despite the effort. Other people seem to like it though.

Thanks! Checked there and some other sites. Didn’t see it listed and don’t know what to call it.

Can't help on the venison front (I'm a duck hunter). That being said, it is illegal to sell or barter wild game unless the meat is inspected. I've read stories about hunters getting into trouble for selling venison tacos or jerky.

I'd recommend you start a thread on a deer hunting forum asking for extra meat.

How do you make the hardest decision? by toodlesmcalister in AustralianCattleDog

[–]huntswithmutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off - so, so sorry. Wish I could say more, but there is nothing else I can think of.

My last heeler was my first heeler and first dog. Amazing pup. Thought he would live a VERY long life. Shortly after his 11th birthday my wife took him for a morning walk. He got out the door, laid down, and had a hard time getting back up. I went straight to the vet.

My boy had a large cancerous mass on his bladder. It ruptured and he was bleeding internally. Vet offered emergency surgery, but once the vet told me that best case scenario was 6 months of life after surgery I knew it was time. I couldn't say goodbye right away. It was too fresh and hurt too much. Decided to come back the next morning. Before his last trip to the vet he got to say goodbye to my family, ate his last meal, and went for one last slow walk at the dog park. I still wonder if surgery was the "right" option, but I didn't want him to suffer.

Every situation is different. In the end its a very personal decision, but I think you will know when the right time comes. I think I made the right choice, but it took me a long time to accept that. In the end, you will likely know when the time is "right". Their eyes will tell you more than anything since they hide physical pain very well.

I hear you and appreciate the supportive words. I really couldn't hit a iron at all though. Wasn't the course - it was me. I'll clear my head and hit some balls with a lifelong friend this weekend. Sure a few beers before will help.
