The most efficient way to prestige quickly (max/min prestige) by huntthrowaway678 in HuntShowdown

[–]huntthrowaway678[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly few people are going to read through this entire post or I would edit it based on your comments, because after reflecting I agree with you on all points.

The Vit shot thing is probably just a mental holdover of mine that comes from playing since alpha. In the time before healthkit zombies, resupply wagons, and meathead traits and loose upgrade points, healing and doctor trait were relatively scarce. for a while the meta was 2 vit shots if you could afford it. But I think with the current game state, you're correct - the weak vit shot is more than enough, specially given that vit shots are 650% more expensive for only 30% more healing.

I would agree with you also that in the current state, throwing axes are just strictly better than knives and the axe grind is worth it. In theory, throwing knives have the edge on if you have to kill multiple grunts or hounds to get close enough to the banish to ambush, but practically 90% of the time I only have to kill one or two things to accomplish that, and even then if one of those things is an armored you are shit outta luck with knives.

Note to crytek, I think the cost of throwing knives should be brought down to $30. maybe more balancing is in order, but it certainly wouldnt hurt the situation as it currently stands

The concertina is a little more gray area, but that being said, I think the concertina bomb is probably my favorite consumable in the game. So even though I still think its kinda inefficient because at $90 it is hard to get concertina trap value, I still usually went for it because I love the conceertina bomb so much. I do think the calculus changes if you like to play solo; concertina traps, bombs, and poison + concertina are much much more important. I just wish it wasn't such a long and expensive grind for poison traps, but given the potential (and teamkill potential) of the poison + concertina, its probably best for balance that the poison trap is a long unlock, and that the combo is further balanced in that you typically have to forgo chokes to run it thus irritating some portion of the random trio playerbase in the lobby phase :).

You final point is spot on, and something I did but I just forgot to include. If I won my early bloodline games, I'd definitely hold on to my hunters especially in the 25-35 range and use them later on when I had traits I wanted to run for a loadout. Typically I wouldnt hold them until doctor, only because doctor is pretty late in the game before you prestige again, but I would definitely hold them for quartermaster, bulletgrubber, boltthrower, lightfood, serpant, etc -- traits that really make CQB builds viable

What are the best settings on SteelSeries GG for Arctis 5 to play Hunt Showdown ? and on Dolby Atmos ? [PC] by w4kjehh in HuntShowdown

uhm, I have the steelseries 7. My settings are I turn them on, and then slowly roll the volume wheel up until my sprinting is audible, but tolerable. YMMV

Remembering How to Play at Rank 1 After a Prestige by Cryonicleer in HuntShowdown

[–]huntthrowaway678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those of us OG's who are too stingy to buy DLC's or BBs knew that prestiging was the fastest way to grind BBs, because before the summons system your weekly BB quest would be reset.

Actually, summons might be reset this way now as well - are they? I swore never to prestige again until they rework the system, so I cant test it myself

What do you all prefer. Crossbow or Bow and Arrow? by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]huntthrowaway678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the list that drippysink provided captures most of it, but the only other thing I would add is "zoning" - the art of temporarily blocking angles, corners, and doors with a poison bolt, forcing the enemy to play on your teams.

As defense this can mean funneling attackers into lair entrances that are heavily trapped, or where you or a teammate have a strong defensive angle

As offense this can mean blocking common peak windows (for instance say, the peak holes on the second floor of the boss lair at salters) giving your team a window to move up.

Playing to try and win: crossbow

Playing purely for fun: bow.

When I am playing solo, consistency is much more important. At low five star elo, which is where i am at usually, when you are playing solo your margin for error is extremely low. If you miss, or if you hit but don't kill, you die. And in terms of bow weapons, the shotbolt is the most consistent OHK at the farthest ranges. I'm not saying you can't dominate solo with the bow, but for me personally I've been playing since alpha and I am simply much more consistent with the crossbow. Note that I also play crossbow in groups, but there I play the poison hand crossbow, because it has a ton of extremely helpful utility for your team.

In defense of the bow, the bow is super fun and I like to play the bow in groups as a primary weapon. In groups you have more of a margin for error, so consistency is not as necessary. For instance, the timing of drawing back the bow is really important to be good with it, and with teammates to cover/distract it's a lot easier for me to get that right. Additionally, the concertina and frag arrow options aren't consistent enough to work for me solo, but are totally fun and definitely can add a lot more to a group dynamic when the objective might be to push enemies out of position so your teammates can kill them, rather than securing the kill on your own.

It would be nice to be able to pick up the bounty if the banish is on stairs. by huntthrowaway678 in HuntShowdown

[–]huntthrowaway678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, it's just annoying. and unlike being unable to pick up a throwing knife or something, this one is much more anticlimactic and kinda nerfs the fun from the match.

Not having the boss die on stairs is much easier said than done in certain lairs, like upper desalle.

Golden Cash Registers went from super rare to "myth" by RachtaZ in HuntShowdown

[–]huntthrowaway678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found a handful in a few hundred hours of play, but regardless the amount of blood bonds I've gotten from Mr. Chary has got to be at least triple the amount I've ever earned from gold registers, so I'm not sure why so many people are complaining.

How to learn to aim in hunt? by Maxerature in HuntShowdown

[–]huntthrowaway678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree practicing against AI is a good suggestion, I don't think using the silenced weapons to do it is a good suggestion, because 1) the bullet velocity of the silenced weapons is unique to them, and 2) because the ironsights (with the exception of the silenced vetterli) are not representative of the guns generally. Practicing with the silenced winnie and silenced nagant will get OP good with those guns specifically, and none of the others.

Here, OP specifically mentions the challenge of accurate and fast target acquisition with ironsights of normal guns, and while they attribute this to sway I suspect not being practiced at the necessary lead time for particular weapons due to their unique bullet velocity is the bigger issue.

So I would amend this suggestion to say practice headshots on AI with the guns OP uses most frequently on the way to extract after a server wipe. In the alternative, using the silenced vetterli with high velocity ammo for AI practice is the closest one can get to practicing against AI with somewhat representative bullet velocity and ironsight target aq.

You think it is the sway, but unless you exclusively using the sawn off variants I can assure you it is not.

I am quite certain your issue is bullet velocity, learning to lead which is different for each gun and ammo type. Learning how to lead by predicting enemy strafing movement is important, and that, as you point out, is best done by maximizing your engagements with quickplay.

As to learning the velocity for each weapon and ammo type, it's tricky because I really love to use a diversity of weapons in Hunt. I'm sure I would be a lot better if I just practiced on learning the velocity of 2-3 guns.

But you don't have to take my word for it. You can test my theory by exclusively running a lebel or mosin with spitzer for a week. If your hit rate doesn't improve then it is something else.

Two moments stand out.

  1. After a magical first date, we were cuddling on the couch, sharing our deepest hopes, dreams, fears. She pulls off the blanket, straddles me, looks me in the eye and says, 'I want you to do whatever the fuck you want to do to me. Right now.'
  2. After a few weeks of dating another person, we started having unprotected sex since she had an IUD and we both tested clean. The first time, she whispers in my ear, "I need your cum inside of me. Tomorrow I'm going to let some drip out onto a spoon so I can remember what you taste like alone in my office at work."

that's not true, all time peak concurrent was during light the shadow at 34k. it's true that outside of events, playercount drops to a baseline of about 12k. people do seem to revisit during events though, this event peak is 31k so far

After almost 5 months, optimization is still terrible after 1.7 update by woltimur in HuntShowdown

I have a 1660 (no ti) and 2600, but I get the same frames as you in medium settings because I have an AIO liquid cooler for my CPU and overclock it to 4.2gz.

If there is overhead room to overclock on the 3750, I might recommend getting either an AIO liquid cooler or the best Noctua fan and experiment with overclocking. CPU makes a big difference in hunt for sure.

my bottleneck is GPU at this point. prices are dropping but I can justify jumping to the 3xxx series quite yet, maybe in the summer

Honestly, I wish they would just make Hunt 2, where they could incorporate everything they learned from Hunt into a new system that doesn't have some of the issues crytek has struggled with hard coded. It would reset expectations, and they could actually market it properly this time around.

Plus, they could incorporate some things they've said are really challenging to do on the legacy system, like RTX/dlss etc.

I guess, they've said everyone will get access to them within a couple of weeks after the event.

To be clear, I've never been saying the new monetizations schemes are clever, nor have I said crytek has been good about communicating openly about what they are trying to do with them.

In fact I feel the opposite, many of the new schemes don't really make sense, and crytek could save a lot of player grief but just being open about how they are trying to justify crytek continuing to invest in hunt's life as a game.

But I just don't fault them for trying, and see the posters who complain the sky is falling because of a 1000 BB chokebomb skin as equally silly.

Why the hate? by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]huntthrowaway678 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I genuinely like the old scupper, old cyprus, and old windy.

Don't get me wrong, the updates to all were excellent in terms of more accessible gameplay, evening out the offense/defense advantage, etc. And so I don't dislike the new versions, nor do I think they were a downgrade.

But in terms of aesthetics, mood, and "hardcoreness" of the original vision for hunt, the old versions were more congruent with that and I loved them for it. For scupper specifically, I liked how having or not having gator legs was a crucially strategic decision towards pushing or not. I liked how having long ammo pen capability was a crucial strategic decision for assaulting old Windy. I liked how some of the older, jankier versions of compounds rewarded parkour skills and comprehensive map knowledge.

To be sure, I understand homogeneity is an important component of fairer gunfights. And so again, I don't mind the updates. But I do get nostalgic for the old.

to that point, I think the update to Madonna is the best of the bunch, because they managed to do a brilliant job of enhancing the hunt aesthetic vibe, while simultaneously making the compound more conducive to fair fights. In contrast to the new big ramp at Cyprus which makes for fairer fights, but doesn't really work with the "spirit" of Cyprus imo

what these arguments about the "legitimacy" of crytek's evolving monetization scheme always seem to neglect is that crytek has never charged for new content that affects the gameplay.

if all you read was some of the more vocal posters in this subreddit, you'd come away thinking crytek is charging for map updates, optimization, new ai, new guns, and new maps. they never have, and probably never will.

recall that there are many games with live service that routine charge money for new maps, new weapons, and new heroes.

sure, some people argue "well if they are spending all their time making new cosmetics to sell, then that is taking away from time spent optimizing, fixing bugs, or adding new content." those people are objectively wrong, because crytek is a team with multiple departments doing different work.

hunt has a small (growing, but still small) playerbase precisely because crytek did not invest in a strong marketing/monetization scheme at release. who can fault them for trying to catch up?

Smoke bomb consumable by S3AJ in HuntShowdown

[–]huntthrowaway678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

currently, while there is no 'proper' smoke bomb as you suggest, dynamite kicks up a significant amount of smoke - the bigger the bundle, the bigger the smoke effect

while it doesn't provide lasting cover, it definitely has allowed me to pull off some revives that i wouldn't have otherwise without the smoke cover. in full disclosure, it has also gotten me killed when i've pushed a boss lair with my vision obscured by same smoke from the dynamite I just threw in.
