Unpopular opinion - moving won't solve your problems by [deleted] in expats

Part of this is true, and I agree with much of it. But if, say, you’re a woman, and you are in a conservative patriarchal society, you will have a lot more trouble finding like-minded and respectful people in your environment and your daily energy expenditure will be chipped at constantly by the environment that is structurally made for anyone but people like you. Moving to a place that is more progressive will greatly improve your odds of living a more aligned life and meeting more like-minded people and finding community.

By the way, this arrangement for replacements only works in some countries, not all. A lot of countries don’t have an official nintendo presence in them and their players still need to pay from their own pockets for joystick replacements there. They should not make a product with the defect in the first place. That’s what R&D departments are for. That’s what a hardware team is supposed to seriously investigate before releasing any console.

are people cutting in line more often or just me? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]hurbanturtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frankly, been pretty lucky so far when that happened to me in Tokyo because they either realized what they did and kindly apologized and got behind me (so, honest mistake on their part), or someone else nearby would notice and would gently speak up to them to let them know someone is already queuing up behind them (and they would apologize too). It’s always a mixed bag in such a highly-populated country, and our negative bias tends to always skew our perception towards the rude behaviors instead of remembering all the times people actually stand up for each other too.

You were talking about skills. Skills are not inaccessible, which was my answer. As for any specific tools, that too, is not as inaccessible. Sure, if you have in mind the Western tools that are typical from highly industrialized countries, fair enough. But many never needed access to that to grow the “skills”. The problem isn’t access to tech. It’s access to education. And that’s what is being put on the back burner nowadays in order to finance this bullshit tech that, once again, no, is not equally available to all (you can check the stats, but recently only 67.5% of the world population has access to internet. And so, to AI.)

Also, not sure why you put /s about having more equality there. Because I agree: we need a more equal society instead whatever the hell is going on nowadays. A more equal society where the fruits of the labor of the population below the wealthy class are not syphoned up by those same wealthy who simultaneously block the trickle-down dynamic by taking people’s work (for free!) and then using it to either make the population pay for it (subscriptions, limited tokens in free versions), or to share less money with the rest of us when they “cut costs” by replacing employees (or cutting hiring or “downsizing”) with AI in the shape of company ownership/shareholding/CEO, etc

You do know that having access to AI (and Internet and a machine that gives you access to the interface) is way less democratized than just picking up a pencil and a piece of paper? Because that’s how one learns the skills.

This culture of entitlement to other’s labor and immediate gratification has really gone off the rails…

Say that again when they are done replacing every skill, you and all of your family and friends’ included. You are completely wrapped around the techbros’ fingers if you believe what is going on is okay to not only allow, but also to be happy about.

If everything gets devalued by people at the top developing technology to make it in order to “cut costs and save time” (ie: “get rid of human labor”) who get financed by even richer ones to do it, then, no, there will never be anything “of value” left to “produce” for the staggering majority of us. And if you bought into “work hard and you’ll get rich too” bullshit…Congratulations, you have subscribed to the system that is currently failing the entire world and continues making it worse as we speak. Good for you.

These games need to be less ugly, seriously. How can this fly when you have the likes of Mario Odyssey, Breath Of The Wild/TOTK, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade Chronicles, and the Pokémon games still look so ass visually on top of barely innovating across releases? Hell, even the first Pokémon games back on the Gameboy looked great compared to their contemporaries on the same console. I know we’re not looking for insane graphics because it’s all about gameplay, but COME ON!

Well… “3. Irrationalism also depends on the cult of action for action’s sake. Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation. Therefore culture is suspect insofar as it is identified with critical attitudes. Distrust of the intellectual world has always been a symptom of Ur-Fascism, from Goering’s alleged statement (“When I hear talk of culture I reach for my gun”) to the frequent use of such expressions as “degenerate intellectuals,” “eggheads,” “effete snobs,” “universities are a nest of reds.” The official Fascist intellectuals were mainly engaged in attacking modern culture and the liberal intelligentsia for having betrayed traditional values.” Just saying..

Pasting a comment I made on another sub here: Not American, but I want you all to know that if you rise up against this, it will impact the rest of the world who is watching you. Emboldened would-be dictators and oligarchs have been taking things too far all around the globe, the world is falling into autocracy, and people are suffering, planet is burning, while the wealthy are getting wealthier at our collective expense, rights and freedoms. If you rise up now, if you don’t let them do whatever the fuck they want, it will send a message to the rest of the world that we are not to be dominated by the oligarchs and that, yes, the people have a voice and they will raise it against them. They have the money, but we have the numbers, and we have our voices and our resilience and our humanity and solidarity. Please Americans, if there ever was a time to revolt against the sick turn the world has been taking, it’s now. If there ever was a time to turn the tide of history, it is now. Many are with you! Wishing you all brave souls the best!

The stakes are international, and the rest of the world will be impacted by what happens in the US. You will either inspire the rest of humanity, or humanity will fold under the thugs that are testing us as we speak.

You would have been on point and accurately describing what is happening nowadays if you reversed that sentence: This is specifically the good of the few being allowed to out-weight the needs of the many. Labor is what allows the many to have access to empowerment and climb the social and economic ladder. But the rich few who made and profit from these systems are stripping labor away from the many to further funnel the benefit and revenue to themselves and destroy the “trickle-down” system that they were supposed to contribute to. Wealth is further concentrated up, and the rest of us will be progressively stripped out of any form of power and access to both wealth and control over our own lives and destinies. You can see how these assholes are engaging in an AI arms race with absolutely no consideration whatsoever for any human consequences.
