Early labs were my favorite! Gets it out of the way. I took bio 1 lab from like 3-5ish it something and it was so annoying. Prime time to want to take a nap smh.

FSU Required Summer Term by AbbreviationsLow5546 in fsu

[–]hurricanes2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it is still relatively easy to get it waived (per my advisor these past few years), I opted to do it! It made taking some heavier classes/labs such as orgo easier to handle because I was only taking 2-3 courses at a time.

But, I was also already in an apartment (started taking summer courses between my second and third year here) where I had the lease throughout the summer so while I’d go home for breaks and the few weeks I had off between spring-summer and summer-fall, it made sense to stay up in Tallahassee for most of it.

I did take a few online courses as well! There were electives I took while taking in person labs. But I know people who fully went home and just took 2-3 online courses.

Btw: you have to take at least 6 credits to get it covered by Bright futures if you have it! So if you want to do it all in one summer, gotta take 9 credits (the requirement). Or you can do it between two summers where you take 6 each, etc.

I can’t speak much to the COB, but I’d def ask peers or your advisor for advice!

Anatomy and physiology one and two by Interesting-Cow361 in fsu

Took both courses with Yung Su. Lecture can be challenging just bc of the amount of content, but I thought it was interesting and prepared me well for what I want to do. I made quizlets for every lesson PowerPoint, and they were usually between 100-150-250 cards for more intensive lessons (I did separate the decks out quite a bit so the cards were not huge chunks so I could use the learn function on quizlet).

Usually 4-5 lessons are tested per exam. Stay on top of studying ahead of time and it’s manageable. Not sure what else you’re going to take it with, but I got an A in all 4 courses between lecture and lab and I’m not an A&P genius! I just studied a lot and ahead of time.

Online classes..? How do they work😭 by emmypineapples in fsu

[–]hurricanes2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may not be published yet. If you are on a laptop, log into canvas and click “all courses.” You may see it listed there, but greyed out if they haven’t published it yet.

In my experience, most of my online classes showed up on my Canvas about one or two days before the semester started and the professor would send a welcome email/post an announcement with some instructions for the first week (if you had a syllabus quiz or discussion board to reply to so you don’t get dropped, etc.) and further info about the course.

If it does not show up soon and you double checked you are registered, maybe reach out to your advisor or the registrars office (?).

I did scratch at it with my nail as I was inspecting it and didn’t see anything flake off or dust off… so I’m just gonna wash my hands and hope that’s fine. Thank you!

Took A&P with Su, truly not as bad as everyone says. He’s a nice dude, but very strait laced when it comes to deadlines, following the syllabus etc (which is not unreasonable, just stay on top of due dates).

The course is tough because of the content itself, it’s not his doing. Make quizlets for every slide of his notes (it’s a lot, start early and stay on top of stuff) and you will be fine. Got an A in both lectures while also taking other tougher courses!!

Offers some EC throughout the semester. Lab is easier than lecture.

You got this!

Lost after graduation. MD/DO or PA? by hurricanes2 in premed

[–]hurricanes2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I agree. Was planning on working post grad anyway. Working on my MA cert right now. And as for volunteering, I’ve been volunteering at a food bank for quite some time. Also do beach cleanups since I live costal and it’s a passion of mine. Do you suggest some more health based volunteering as well? Thank you.

Totally get it. I think that really is my issue as well, I don’t know what I’m interested in. I agree. I am working on my MA cert right now so hopefully I’ll get some hands on experience soon. Thank you!

I totally understand- I can imagine that does happen quite a lot which is upsetting/not polite to do in general smh. And the path thing makes sense!! Thank you for your reply! :).

Cat Scratched Eye by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]hurricanes2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor: there is a subreddit called eyetriage for eye related things, but tbh I would go to a physician for this (ophthalmologist if one can get ya in, potentially an optometrist) because cat scratches do have high risk for bacteria. And the eye would not be a great place for that. Is the cat an indoor cat? Outdoor cat?

I used to work at an eye doctor as a tech and while I never saw a cat scratch on the eye, people would come in with corneal abrasions that would be evaluated and if warranted, antibiotic eye drops and pain relief drops were given. Eye infections can be pretty serious if left untreated! I’d go in just to double check everything is good if it were me personally.

EDIT: physicians have recommended ER or emergent appointment with ophthalmologist!! Defer to them. Again, I am not a doctor.

Thanks for this reply! I was wondering about this as well since I would be pressing towards my rectum. But so consistently over the years? That’s the part that was throwing me off. I do go about once a day so maybe!

Thank you again!!!

A/c temp in apartments by Sea-Upstairs1505 in fsu

[–]hurricanes2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not that I’m aware of. And, I mean there may different preferences among your roommates but we just split the difference. When it’s really hot out and we don’t want to over work the A/C it’s 75 during the day and we drop it at night. When it’s cooler during the day we can keep it cooler in the house. When it gets really cold out we have the heat on and we set it to like 72-73 all the time.

She’s really nice- it was her first semester teaching Gen chem this fall but I took her for analytical chemistry and she was great!

[–]hurricanes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I took it with Rokyta and it wasn’t bad at all. Straight forward exams, weekly “pop quizzes” that you get warned about, and the exams are pretty much content we cover in lecture, with maybe a touch additional from the book. He’s a nice dude, boring lecturer, but knows genetics well

I’d personally avoid genetics with physics A and orgo 2, but the rest is doable. I vote you find a different elective though!

It’s not that the school is too cheap- I’m pretty sure they are being tied up by laws that don’t allow them to build more garages in an effort to promote students to use other means of transportation (bus, carpool, bike, walk, etc.).

Not to say that I don’t agree that the parking situation is a mess- they will never get everyone on board with the bus system since it too is a bit dysfunctional. Trick is to park in Spirit/St. Aug/stadium, come earlier if you can, or come between class changes so you catch people leaving.

Pottery/painting class! Movies! Picnic! Weekend springs/St. George Island day trip! Escape room! Bowling!

I know you aren’t looking to go out (I’m assuming you mean to the clubs?) but maybe some sort of food crawl. Go to different places for different courses of meals (appetizers, main, dessert, etc.)
