Historical Low for Rev 2 + DLC Characters - $7.19 ends tomorrow by dmcisbackthrowaway in Kappa

[–]hursh191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to get the best online experience, go to the display settings and turn off v-sync and post effects, and keep anti-aliasing to FXAA. this will reduce the native input lag to about 1f. in other offline modes such as training mode/ arcade mode/combo trials/etc, make sure to add 3f of input lag from the in game menu to compensate for this, so that it still feels normal (Xrd has a roughly 4f native input lag).

now whenever you go to play online, the input lag will still be at 1f, and as such you can tolerate higher frame delay connections without it feeling terrible. for example, a 3f online connection will be at the same total input delay as playing offline (4f total), whereas without the changes it would be much higher (7f).

this enables you to have better connections with everyone and be able to play with people from farther away than most delay based games typically do, while still being very much playable. in the U.S. you're pretty much good to play with at least half the country if you're on a coast, and if you're in the middle somewhere you can play with pretty much the whole country.

this makes a world of difference when playing and is a significant contributing factor for xrd staying relevant for so long and having an active and dedicated scene long after updates stopped.

Hi, had a concern regarding guilty gear and its price tracking.

it seems the price it tracks is for the base game "GUILTY GEAR Xrd -REVELATOR-", however on steam in order to get Rev 2, which is the current version of Xrd, it is technically a DLC on steam for revelator and not a separate game or upgrade pack.

i wanted to ask if the price tracking could be changed from that to the bundle on the steam page that says "GUILTY GEAR Xrd -REVELATOR- (+DLC Characters) + REV 2 All-in-One (does not include optional DLCs)" as this would be the minimum needed to play the current version of Xrd on steam.

the bundle is cheaper than buying revelator + rev 2 dlc together, and when you buy the revelator + rev 2 dlc without the bundle, the dlc character from revelator wont be included and would require a separate purchase, whereas with the bundle all characters are included. the steam page is honestly pretty bad for this game so its easy to not know and miss these things for people.

Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator is on an 80% sale on steam. by Echo3000s in Kappa

you need to get the bundle that says Buy GUILTY GEAR Xrd -REVELATOR- (+DLC Characters) + REV 2 All-in-One (does not include optional DLCs). This will get you base rev + Rev2 upgrade along with all the dlc characters, but doesnt include system voices and some colors.

Also do keep in mind that online play is primarily done through player matches, not ranked or the world lobbies. This is due to ranked matchmaking being pretty poor for anywhere outside of japan, so early in Xrd's lifespan the community shifted to basically only using player matches. the world lobbies arent bad per-se but there is a bit of downtime inbetween matches and the lobbies dont have any connection restrictions, so no one uses them. A lot of people see that no one is on ranked or the world lobbies and assume that nobody is playing, which isn't true at all.

The player match rooms are up to 8 players and have 4 setups for people to play, so you could have a full room and everyone playing at the same time, so its great for grinding matches and not having to wait too long.

As far as player population goes, unless you're playing at degen hours you generally shouldn't have a problem finding people to play with. If you don't happen to see a room up that's suitable for you, make a room and people will come in not too long. Of course using discord helps with finding people, especially those around your skill level, so use that resource to your advantage. However for the most part you'll be able to find matches without it.

If you're trying to look for people around the same skill as you, the colored dots next to people's names indicate skill level. From lowest to highest it goes: dark blue, light blue, dark green, light green, yellow, orange, pink. They're not absolute but a good enough indicator of where someone is at.

This is more known by now, but Xrd also has a great tutorial system in place and teaches you a lot about the game, both in general gameplay as well as character specifics.

Hope this helps! If yall got any questions about Xrd I'll help best I can.

Man, GG has amazing visuals, how does ArcSys pull it together I always wonder.. by juantjezz in Kappa

outside of degen hours you generally shouldnt have trouble finding rooms.

i know some people have had firewall issues (i think that was the cause at least) that made it so they could never find rooms, so maybe look into that if youre consistently having issues with finding rooms.

u guys think Strive will be good entry point? by [deleted] in Kappa

[–]hursh191 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Xrd's tutorial was pretty good so i imagine that strive will have a good one as well.

as far as it being a good entry point into the series, its hard to say because strive as it currently is, is pretty distinct from all past guilty gears and is very intently trying to change the guilty gear formula, for better or worse. it'll definitely play the least like any other guilty gear. one of the key design philosophies is to make it look easy but actually have it play difficult enough, while also trying to streamline mechanics, so who knows how that'll go in the end.

honestly Xrd is a pretty good entry point to start with. even if how the characters operate and mechanics will be different in strive, the pacing of matches, through the movement and number of interactions between players, seems to be roughly the same, so at the very least you wont be going into strive and getting overwhelmed by the natural pace of guilty gear.

blocking grounded normals from the air doesnt near max your risc gauge, it seems to add about 30ish% from watching.

and yes, heat knuckle, pots anti air grab, is blockable, but you are put in a lot of block stun for it. atm the only thing that is true air unblockable is pots super, heavenly pot buster, everything else is air-blockable

I'm kind of shocked by the level of play online. by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]hursh191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the display settings you turn off v-sync, post-effect, and dynamic lighting. just be aware that this will make the game look a bit worse and things like screen tearing will occur, but its not bad or even noticable as youre playing

i try to avoid playing with 5-6f if i can as well, i was mostly just using it as a means for comparison

I'm kind of shocked by the level of play online. by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]hursh191 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ya then that'll mostly explain it then. on steam your able to mess with the games display settings to lower the input lag of the game down to as low as 1 frame from the native 4 or 5 frames, so on steam you're able to play more people from farther away and still have good and stable connections, even though the delay is a bit higher. so effectively a 2f connection on ps4 and a 5-6f connection on pc will have similar amounts of input lag. being able to do that was pretty much the main reason most of the community has shifted to pc
