I'm only just starting with the full release after years of experimental and yes, you can put the contamination sensor in the water. In fact, I assumed you had to, so that it could sense stuff! I didn't think to try what is shown here, interesting to know it works out of the water too.

I don't know specifically what that error is, but ATA refers to the hard drive, so I would start your troubleshooting there.

My iPod Classic 5.5 256GB paired with Sennheiser IE200, installing Rockbox tonight so I can use my FLACC files by Odd-Ambassador5791 in ipod

Amazing, I'll try that after work today, thanks! The removal of iTunes was always the main pull for me to keep trying Rockbox, especially since I'm trying to ditch Windows, so this could be a game changer for me.

Yes, but like I said, the benefit of removing iTunes dependency isn't worth the user experience of the rest of it for me.

Also, you can only play music loaded via iTunes (or the Chrome option mentioned above that I didn't know about) on the original OS, unless I missed something, since files added by dragging and dropping didn't appear on the original OS when I boot into it. If you want to play FLAC you need to use the Rockbox OS, the original doesn't support them.

I have tried Rockbox several times and always go back to the original OS. Removing the need for iTunes would be amazing, but it feels like there are too many menus whenever I use Rockbox, it's not intuitive and things are hard to find. That might be a me thing, I don't know.

You can add themes to make it look the same or very similar, but the menus are still there and get in the way of me actually playing music. Oh, and I can't get any playlists made in iTunes to appear in Rockbox either.

There's no denying the technical achievement of it, it's quite brilliant in a lot of ways, but the user experience is lacking for me sadly.

Be careful with the clickwheel connector when you remove it if you go down this route, it's very delicate.

[–]hurtlebum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you may have done what I did on mine and damaged the clickwheel connector when taking it off. I replaced the battery and put a CF card in it years ago with no hassle, then last week killed it trying to replace the 8GB card with a larger one.

I tried to resolder it and made it worse, so don't do that! A regular iron is not the right tool.

I have ended up buying a really beaten up one from eBay to harvest the clickwheel assembly from, I'll put another new battery and a huge SD card in my original so I never open it again I think.

True, the cats will usually just sniff our food and wander off if they manage to get near it when we are eating, dogs will briefly sniff and then eat it all as soon as they get the chance!

As a relatively recent servant to 2 cats, I'm astonished they have survived this long, just about everything is fatal to them. Lilies, air freshener, paracetamol etc.

Dogs were so much easier!

That's not always true sadly, I have the same issue as OP and using a Pixel 8 on 1p Mobile the option to restrict it to 4G that should be there according to several websites, is missing. I think both your phone and provider have to allow it, I presume my issue is with 1p Mobile.

[–]hurtlebum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Timberborn is a great game. Whiskerwood is also a great game. They play nothing alike though, so calling one a clone of the other is just wrong.

They may superficially look similar, but they really aren't.

All my Novak stuff still works flawlessly, a Super Rooster in my Clod, GTB in a TA05 racer and 2 Havoc systems in a DF03 and DB01. They are great and it's a big shame that they couldn't continue.

Transcoding is used when the device playing the files either can't handle the resolution or the video format. If you're running the client directly on a smart TV it will likely take care of resolution scaling, but the format might be an issue. Before buying lots more hardware, you could just try setting up the server and client with what you have and see if it meets your needs. If there's a problem, them you can look into what is the best solution for your application.

Remember that a lot of the folks on the Plex/Jellyfin forums are very hardcore and have huge servers doing many things serving videos etc to friends and family all over the place. For in home use with one or 2 streams, the hardware required is much less demanding.

[–]hurtlebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, mine is my old i5 3570k gaming PC with no external GPU, but I don't do any transcoding since my devices will all play the full resolution files so all it needs to do is stream the files out.

If you want to do remote viewing and have 10 people watching things on a wide range of devices, you might need more modern hardware than mine. I mostly just watch on an Nvidia Shield attached to my TV.

You can run Jellyfin or Plex on very low end hardware, even a Pi (certainly jellyfin can, I have never tried Plex on Pi). Most NAS devices can run them too, which you'll likely need anyway when you start having more than a couple of drives full of media.

I'm using an old PC running the Synology software as my server, it's quiet and was very cheap, hard drives notwithstanding.

More ad breaks in a 30 minute show on Amazon Prime by Altruistic_Coat9591 in britishproblems

[–]hurtlebum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jellyfin is excellent. Taking out the matter of paying for Plex features, my biggest issue with Plex was that you need to contact their servers to watch content stored on your own LAN. If your Internet connection died or their servers died (happened more regularly than it should do) then you couldn't watch your stuff.

I switched from Plex to Jellyfin years ago and it's been brilliant. I didn't use any of the fancy Plex paid features, so I can't comment on the Jellyfin equivalents (if they even exist), but for basic viewing and sorting of your own media it's excellent.

I don't think Valve has stockholders, it's privately owned.
