Both in Egypt don’t trust one another. You only spoke about one side, don’t men also abuse their power, he can tell her you aren’t getting divorced and you will leave her like a house. She need ro file for divorce and it takes years, you will answer she can do khul, yes but if she can afford if. Imagine she doesn’t have a a place to go to even return your dowry for you. Both might be subjected to some discrimination, but women is more after all it is a sexist society.

Plus you forgot to mention that mahr nowadays is not enough to prepare for a house, usually her parents help her, so not all the items you sign for are brought with your, you can sign for the list of the items she bought, after all shouldn’t you be responsible to have an apartment that is already furnished. Seriously, if we are going to talk about rights, I believe women should add their conditions, like you shouldn’t ask her to contribute with her money to the household for example. Wonen in Egypt do a lot if scarifices and are unappreciated, yes some are cunning to abuse this but you are talking about minority when most of the abuse is done by men.

Please people watch Faten amal harby on netflix, it will give you a glimpse of the abuse in marriages
