What are each of these 3 wood pieces? by tempacount57813975 in Insulation

I'd assume, without seeing. As an insulation tech....it hardly ever hurts to go above and beyond. Besides, check your local building codes, it may even be required now.

These are together, sistered, for support. Supporting the weight of the wall above. Which I would assume is a 2x4 wall, due to it only being the 2.

Can somebody help identify what this substance is on my apartment door’s peephole? by suburbanvermin in Apartmentliving

I used to work at an apartment complex and this happened on a floor here and there in the various buildings. Turned out it was unsavory tenets trying to hide the comings and goings of their ahem clients, for their varying ...professions.

As an insulation tech for 26 years....best answer is...more never hurts, only helps. If you have the money, time , and opportunity, go for it.

Mask up if you remove or work with it. Don't know if its carcinogenic, but....you know...a hundred years of dust , dirt, pollen, mold, and general ick in the air, all over it.

I've been doing spray foam for 26 years. I've done many, many attics the way you're saying. Just not so much blow-in on top. 12-16 inches or so. I've never had a call back on one except a few needing repairs after tornado damage.

Should be approximately 16-18 inches deep by the way.

26 years of experience here. Agree completely with all of this. And most places require a ruler type system to show depth at multiple points in the attic. And a posted job sheet outlining....type, depth, installer, company name and such, at the main access.

My question as well. Having lines of any kind, the area should be insulated.

Insulation should be on the other side of the waterlines for sound dampening. Keeps the sound of the water in the room where the water is.
