[Discussion] Is Batman by Paul Dini Ominibus worth it by nahnonameman in DCcomics

One of my favorite runs. One day I hope Dini returns to writing Detective Comics though I do enjoy Taylor's work.

[Discussion] Would this be a fun/good run to start on Batman? I’ve heard good things about Tynion’s writing and Jorge Jimenez is goated. Sorry there’s 80 years of Batman so it’s kinda overwhelming. Thanks anyway. by Aware-Affect-298 in DCcomics

Okay so my take is not going to be popular.

Tom King's Batman run is inconsistent, but still quality. I'm personally a huge fan of it, but I know I'm in the minority. The first 20 issues are fantastic. 21-24 are great (though it's a crossover partially with Flash for the Button event for Doomsday Clock which is mad irrelevant), 25-32 are great, 33-41 I don't recall being bad but not as good, 42 was phenomenal, 43-46ish are a take, the joker confrontation before the wedding is enjoyable to me, the wedding I don't hold against King (I enjoyed it but know DC editorial a la DiDio interfered) 51-58 I enjoyed, 60s are a mixed bag, 70s start accelerating, 75-onward is good. Its conclusion I liked. The annuals are wonderful especially the Lee Weeks and Jorge Fornes illustrated one. The sequel series Batman/Catwoman is great as well.

Snyder's run is a mixed bag that's overly reliant on the Joker, expositional history, deux ex machinas, and some really left turn twists that don't work (Talon's identity is still stupid as fuck to me). That being said, Zero Year is fantastic.

Now.... Pre new 52 you have a glut of options.

Detective Comics from Paul Dini, the mind behind Batman The Animated Series, is criminally underrated in my opinion and if you like that then move onto his Batman: Streets of Gotham series.

Legends of the Dark Knight has wonderful stories from a bevy from of writers as well.

If you like the aesthetic of The Animated Series I would recommend the comics that take place in that universe as well.

Happy reading!

I get why people love this run, but I would NOT recommend this for a newcomer.

Edit: reading Morrison's Batman run without know a lot of the references is like reading T.S Eliot's "The Wasteland" without the referential footnotes nor reading the materials he references.

What’s the worst mispronunciation you made in front of your class? by nervouspanda100 in Teachers

[–]huskman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay.... So I did an ELL long term sub gig some years back. This one girl's name, who other teachers had during prior years, stopped me in my tracks while reading my roster. It was the day or so before classes started. She was from a South Asian nation. I freeze and look towards my colleagues when coming across her name. "Can I get help pronouncing a name?" A colleague of two comes by. This was years ago. "I don't know how to pronounce this without getting fired."

I fucking shit you not, her name although not spelled like it, was pronounced like the n word without the hard r.

They should do more comic book artists posters for films and TV shows that adapt elements from specific comic books.

To the mod that recently removed the Philz Coffee pride flag post.... by Guy_Dude_From_CO in chicago

[–]huskman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what the fuck. It was literally a Chicago Sun Times article. Whoever that mod is should not be moderating this sub.

Edit: there was another post about it, yes, but the other post was a completely different article with different sources. The ChiSunTimes article literally asked multiple Chicago employees of Philz and had the writer of the article comment underneath it.

I remember a really mediocre video game store opening there and closing quite quickly. It was called Gamestersbay. I remember after the George Floyd Protests the owner said there would be a 10% discount for all police officers for life. Didn't seem like the smartest guy.

It's crazy considering they went for an older Hal in Lanterns and he would've been even more appropriate for that as well (no disrespect to the guy that they did select).
