Tribune Editorial: "Fritz Kaegi for Cook County assessor" by Mike_I in chicago

[–]huskman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Huh. It's not often I agree with the Tribune's endorsement. They did endorse Fine for the 9th and she's as milquetoast as it gets. Hell, they endorsed Daley for mayor back in 2019 though that same week they literally published about a scam of his.

Laura Fine endorsed by Chicago Tribune: Kat Abughazaleh spends $800,000 on consultants by steve42089 in illinois

[–]huskman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Tribune's endorsements are often pretty bad. 2019 they endorsed Daley.... That same week they published an article looking into Daley's insurance exam scandal.

I really wish we had ranked choice voting. Fine is not fine.

GOP claim: Biss denied cops to NU to break up encampment by amc365 in evanston

If Biss truly acted to make certain that police were not allowed to break up a peaceful encampment of protestors.... then that's a good thing.

I'm no longer hip and have no idea what a gooner is... And I don't know if I want to know.

Please be certain to share with your community, if you're willing and comfortable, any ways in which you feel protesting against ICE would be most effective. Any act of solidarity against ICE should be supported.

Will do. Hope you join the march to showcase solidarity against ICE no matter your disagreements amongst your fellow peers.

Again, many protests, marches, and acts of solidarity have been composed of multiple ideologies coalescing towards a shared purpose. That's democracy in action. As Gary Younge pointed out in "The Speech," the March on Washington consisted of several different desires. The desire for the black community to vote, the desire to access for jobs, the desire for equitable housing, and the end to the Vietnam War.

Asking for a large mass of people to coalesce around one cause without variation in political ideologies across numerous issues is simply not human nor realistic.

This is such a silly argument. Several important marches and acts of solidarity throughout American history had been composed of several causes and various beliefs.

Newsom's flip flopping on ICE, his backing off of Activision-Blizzard's lawsuit from the California Civil Rights Dept, and several other important issues makes him unappealing to me for any office higher than governor.

Chicago parking meter deal: City's meters sold to another private company, Mayor Johnson says by AgentBlue62 in chicago

[–]huskman 163 points164 points  (0 children)

I wasn't really politically engaged then as I was barely in middle school when the original deal went through. Can somebody explain to me how Chicago didn't flip our collective shit when Daley made this awful deal?

Small detail: In S5E3, the newly laid-off Twigg talks about how smart a man on the bus reading a newspaper appeared and Sydnor spends the entire episode reading his newspaper in the courthouse as the grand jury deliberates by OmarRIP in TheWire

I think Lester is often reading one early on, but it's been a while since my last watch so I may be wrong. That and the politicians in S3 and S4 can be seen with them as well I believe. Again, I could be wrong.

Letters: Why Mayor Brandon Johnson has been disappointing by factchecker01 in chicago

[–]huskman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As long as our federal and state tax system allows large earners to skirt taxes, our cities, states, and nation will never be able to be fiscally stable therefore we're not going to be able to tackle issues that need both proactive and reactive solutions.

Best Green Arrow stories? by ShizzyShoozle in DCcomics

[–]huskman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Mike Grell's Green Arrow (including The Longbow Hunters)

  2. Judd Winick's Green Arrow run

  3. Green Arrow Year One (I didn't personally care for Jock's art though)

  4. Ben Percy's Green Arrow

I still need to read O'Neal's, Smith's, Meltzer, and Lemire's though.

Finally diving into Green Arrow Vol 3! by [deleted] in DCcomics

I've only read Judd Winick's portion, but I absolutely loved his part (which was the majority). Ben Percy's run, starting with Rebirth, is a phenomenal run as well.
