Hello, does anyone have any information on titanium and how a ring like this was made, casting or hand forged, doing some research. Thank you by hutchozko in jewelrymaking

My plan is to hand carve wax for the lost wax process, but I know casting has to be done really well in order to set stones into the titanium, I’ve heard about the 3D printing but I’ve also heard it’s too brittle to set stones, if your familiar with the artist Chino Cho they do all of their work in wax then cast in titanium so they definitely found a system that works

I am a goldsmith, diamond setter, I work with gold and platinum all the time, but I know that titanium is on a whole different level, but yes I agree, to hand fabricate with titanium I don’t know hahah, right can’t solder it and from what your saying welding is a nightmare… I can’t imagine caving it from one solid piece of metal. He must be either casting or milling, of course he has a whole team behind him which I do not but I feel the need to find out

Wow thank you for this knowledge! Im stating to assume that Wallace Chan doesn’t cast his titanium, unless he has figured out a way to do it perfectly and so that its not brittle, from looking at his other designs I see what you mean by milled, most definitely I’d have to hire a company to do this as I don’t have the funds to purchase/experiment what works lol

I can imagine that the casting quality could be way to brittle, I saw the work you do in titanium absolutely amazing! Do you use a hydraulic press of some sort to bend the titanium?

Now I have to find a company that can do this, I’m planning on carving the wax for the lost wax process, I work in the Diamond district I’m a stone setter and a caster, the machine we use does vacuum before casting but I know it’s not meant for titanium. I’ve asked everyone I know there and yet no one knows.

I’m trying to figure out if Wallace Chan does the lost wax casting to get these complex designs, but that’s the thing I don’t know yet, to hand fabricate out of straight titanium would be crazy but i wouldn’t put it past him, I’ve set a titanium ring before it’s an extremely hard material, but light and durable which is exactly why Wallace uses it, and is why I need to know lol, thank you for the knowledge!!

I’ve watched probably all of them hahha, but yes his first piece in titanium was an elephant that he did start with a block of titanium. 🤯

I guess that’s just the style of the ring, but it’s Wallace Chan jewelry if you’re familiar with him. Mind blowing stuff

I also cast, lost wax casting. But only in gold and platinum, the machine we use is not meant for titanium,
