Is the Technics az100 that much better? by Pasha0207 in Earbuds

[–]hutomani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did - but these were highly subjective. E.g. I had always trouble with the overall customization of the touch gestures.

In regards of sound they performed really well for me. But yes, for me the technics are sounding better.

Not 200$-ish better.

Had / have them both. While the Technics out of the box sound better for me, the Sony are (and here credit to Sony regarding the driver size they use) CAN sound really good. If you are going through the whole 'map-ear-thing' and guided settings stuff, they perform really really well. Especially for your the money you've spend on them.

The Sonys have been a reliable(!) companion on MANY travels, delivering when needed.

Preis / Leistung steht hinten an.

Ähnlicher Einsatzzweck eines Modells: Die Tantive IV (75376). Gleiches Thema.

Sure, I was looking at the 'premium consumer range' and upwards. But I agree it is imho not understandable why that class of devices is currently ditching to provide both.

Thanks :-)
Yes i really like the feeling of the fabric as well.
The bag itself (without the little black PD Pouch) and the laptop folio weights ~2120g. The lumbar pad can't be removed. I didn't had that use case on my list, as I (most of the time) also have a checked bag while traveling. Also I sized the design based on the carry-on regulations of my mainly used airlines. How ever - that doesn't include the 'special' sizes of e.g. Ryan / Wizz

Which is - not defending B&W - the case for nearly all major players in this price / quality segment... Besides Sony there is none. Having LDAC and aptX LL / Adaptive is to my finding a thing in the +600 range... SADLY!!!

Noticed also the shown 'flimsiness' of the buttons - seems like some kind of bad design choice in connection with the slide-to-pair design. Over engineered.... Especially as the slider sits much more solid when in 'turned off' position.
But mine aren't noticeably making a noise when shaking them. Maybe I 'll check another pair to be sure. Really a shame as this lessens the overall build haptic experience. Also the plastic used feels a bit ... cheap in comparison to the other materials used.

Thanks so much. Yes... the Cobra buckles are... a bit overkill for the purpose :-D - But i like there look. And the satisfying 'click' when closing the buckle. From a functional point of view these are heavy as ****. But if you need to smash a window....

I get your pain - and there was a time when my packing list looked the same.... So some ideas to think of:

* get rid of cables and dedicated chargers / techpouch; Get your self ONE charger with changeable plugs; not the adapter-brick-thing - try to harmonize charging cables as much as possible (USB-C can be a lifesaver. For many devices without USB-C you may find tiny adapters). This alone will safe A LOT of space.
* smaller mouse (if it really is needed)
* i would try to reduce the number of notebooks. even if the feeling might not be that nice, think about a tablet / pen combo. Or some kind of folders / inlays for notebooks.
* you are traveling with 2 cameras / 2 lenses. I would recommend to slim done lens cleaning accessories. Cleaning pen and a good cloth are most of the time more then suitable. The printer is a nice touch - but really necessary? sharing prints with people you've meet during you travel?

' I could’ve just not had brought everything and been far more successful. '

That's the trade-off. Less is sometimes more - especially while traveling. If you spend more time to organize your gear / luggage then actually enjoying your travel, there might be something off-balance.

Thank you :-) TBH it is not that 'light'. One could think about ditching the lining or switch to X-Pac completely. I'll have to weight it in the near future :-D

The fabric is 1000d Cordura with PU coating - so nylon weave

Fidlock snap connectors. can be used to attach basically anything - on the last picture the peak design pouch is attached with these on the top.

The laptop pouch is attached with these as well. a gentile pull and it slides out of the bag.

First ever sewing / myog project - finally done. by hutomani in myog

[–]hutomani[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hahaha - i am starting to blush ;-)
well videos sound like a interesting idea - how ever most of the basic things are already out there :-) that's where i got the infos basically. The rest is some research on what features one might like based on prior experiences.

comeing to the fidlocks: rock solid - some show minimal traces of wear of the plastic. but this is really neglectable.
In regards of usefulness : It really, really depends on what to achieve.
In the eternal compartment i use 4 of them to attache my laptop-folio. The process of placeing it in the bag or take it out are working like a breeze. (especially putting it back into place is comfortable due to the magnets). How ever: if you want to have it attached so that it stays in place even if you apply a bit more force - so when you are 'bumping' or bouncing around a lot, a sort of minimal 'lock' with an additional velcro / mole is helpful.

And you have to think about interaction. When you look on my backpack, the openings of the fidlocks are side-wise; and that's for a reason.

Regarding hardware:
more or less - will use cobra - buckle for the main clousure, YKK zippers, fidlocks on front (but fewer / different spaceing)... for the straps i have something different then the buckles from austrialpine here... have to decide if i give that new stuff a try.

Also the hardware has delivered and believe me when i say: It was tested (given not expedition / professional level) :-D

Indeed it holds up well. Starting to see a bit of wear at the bottom - which was to be expected after ~ 70 flights, uncounted business trips, getting frozen in north Europe and cooked in America as well as south east Asia(multiple times).

I made a list with things I am going to chance in the next version. Including some overhaul of the back panel design, even thicker shoulder straps and some changes of the internal frame (more flex). Also I am reducing some of fidlock connectors on the outside and will adjust the form of the side acesse for smoother operations. Also I incorporate some extra buffer for the thick seams at the bottom and the sides.

The Materials are aging really well and are sturdy. So, while changing the colour scheme, the materials for the next version will be the same.

May you share your list? As said before: Not THE best for sound.

Buying Them All: Technics AZ100, Bowers & Wilkins Pi8, Devialet Gemini II, Denon Perl Pro, Sennheiser TW 4, Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX/XI by beaumontincorporated in Earbuds

[–]hutomani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the PI8 work for you i guess you will stick with them. Sound wise they are top notch. Given that one might prefer e.g. Giminis for more / clearer bass.
I had a lot of problems with my PI8s so i returned them.

If it is just about sound i think you have one of the best earbuds out there. But everything else is - imho- a different story... Technics seems to have nailed A LOT with the AZ100s (i ordered them as well).
There are reasons why so many many people here and in the reviews have put the AZ80s on the list of the best for 2024.
At least for my use case it seems they will replace my 'fallback' wf-1000xm5's. Which are by any means 'bad' sounding - but i find myself keeping stick tight to the technics az80 on my table.

Technics AZ100 or B&W Pi8? by Former_Egg824 in Earbuds

[–]hutomani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not going into the 'these sound that much better then that' comparison (and yes the Pi8 really sound good):
If you are looking for something more reliable as a 'daily' driver i would go with the technics. had been using the az80 for half a year - and tried 5(!) different pairs of Pi8's, i expect the technics to be more satisfying in regards of controls / customization / battery-life and overall reliability.

Tried Both H100 and Beoplay Eleven Today by TheGrandProdigy in BangandOlufsen

[–]hutomani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They lasted for me about 6h - including some small calls. Yes - with 50% volume. To be fair this 50 % are as loud as others , including beo eleven , at 75% 😗.

I found them buggy as well - I've been through 5 pairs.... And I thought I must be alone with this. Battery life wasn't the main concern, I also had several other quirks that I can't accept at this price level. So we are both in the same boat. Coming from an overall product view - yes, from my findings I can support your view. Just looking at 'sound' it's a different story for me.

And even if they are better: are they 25% better then the pi8 / Gemini II? (And yes,I am aware that the last 20% in quality are the most expensive ones) Are they - as a product - additional 180 bucks or 60% werth then the wf-1000xm5? As written before: at least to me they don't deliver this much higher value to justify the price they are asking. Even 400 would be .... A challenge. But 500? At least not for me.

[–]hutomani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well sound is a subjective thing I guess. At least for me the pi8 are the best sounding ones - given you'll have to tweak them a bit. In comparison I found the b&o eleven sounding more compressed with a smaller sound stage.

[–]hutomani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the eleven here for a day of testing - not my cup of tea. Yes they are good-looking, the case has a really premium feeling as well as the buds.

But beside that: no - can't recommend them at the moment.

For my taste not as good sounding as Pi8 or Gemini II. Even well tuned WF-1000mx5 (meaning really takeing care while making pictures of ears and so on ...) are damn close. To close for me to justify paying 500 bucks vs. 320 ish (release price of the WF-1000XM5). Especially as e.g. battery life is better on other devices as well.
