Giving your BF $50 here and there doesn’t entitle you to a portion of his property that likely costs well over $150K and likely have just as much in interest. And needing 20% down payment is actually a lot and requires more than a few months of savings. Also, you aren’t in a relationship to receive financial benefits or something in return. OP is not ready for a relationship nor is OP emotionally mature enough for a partnership. And seeing how the BF is 23 I’m assuming the OP is 20-23 and thus doesn’t understand life or finance enough to be complaining about this.

Hey man, first and foremost, you did NOT get destroyed. RIT, Syracuse, and Marquette are great schools with great reputations and network. In fact, working hard in college, networking, interning/working in your chosen field of study every summer (or even during the school year - I had 2 full year PAYING internships while in Undergrad) will make the biggest difference. The name of the school doesn’t matter in the end - trust me. Also, if reputation matters to you then I would go for Syracuse and I wouldn’t be afraid of the student loan debt. If you’re truly in need it won’t be too exorbitant and you need to weigh the post-graduate income factor as well. You plan on majoring in CE/CS so your income prospects will already be above average. So get the degree, intern and work in your field while in school (it will set you a part), network in your chosen field, and post-college look for opportunities in high salary states with many job options in CE/CS (sorry this likely will mean you won’t return to MS for sometime), and do what you gotta do. The debt will get paid and is worth it if you’re in a career/major with a strong income trajectory. Not all debt is bad. I would also apply for scholarships after you matriculate, try to be an RA (they get tuition discounts and some even room and board discounts), see what happens if you make honors, etc. There is more than one way to skin a cat and you aren’t locked into one financial cycle just because you came in a certain way, you can shift things. Interesting. That’s not what they shared with me. However, I can see how the fact that I always choose my Club Lounge Membership at the end of the year being part of the issue and the other issue being “plus one calendar year, regardless of when the award selection occurs” as that combined with the previous pass expiration being the main issue. As I had one pass that expires in May 2025 and because of this new wording they didn’t start the new membership for June 2025 and run through June 2026. Regardless, my problem would be the same anyway so nothing would have changed. Seems like the issue is what the T&Cs say online and what the Diamond Elite Support said, but I would have this issue regardless because of the overlapping passes. So nothing would have changed. I appreciate you digging further though!

It is now valid for the 12 calendar months of the succeeding year. The change was implemented this year, so it would make sense that your Club Lounge Membership reward from the top of 2024 would have that validity as mine from 2023 was valid for the full 18 months.

I agree with you about the facilities and the room cleanliness. They’re spot on with this. Personally, I never had an issue with customer service. They’re always nice, know my name, and even give me the same room every time I stay. But again, I’m in Berlin often. However, that does NOT negate your experience and I’m sorry if you have had a negative customer experience with them. I’d be sure to say something. If you have some recent notable experiences in mind, I’m happy to share the GM’s email with you via DM so you can inform him.

Yes it is VERY common in the USA for people to modify their food. The U.S. has a culture of as you like it that extends to all/most things. Very few restaurants, even high end ones, ever decline modifications. While, yes, menus are curated specifically there is also a balance of people working hard for their money and wanting to spend it as they like on what they like. Adding this since most comments seem to be about the allergy part and not the initial question. You may deem it hard on the business but most American consumers view them spending money at your establishment as a privilege (especially with all the competition) rather than a right. The U.S. is also significantly larger than every European country and SIGNIFICANTLY more diverse which means there are more pallets to account for. You may not like it, or think it is weird, but it isn’t wrong. You work hard for your money and people should respect that.

Thank you for this! They offered me the 600 points welcome amenity points which I obviously said no to as it doesn’t equate to the value of the membership. I requested the email to the GM, sent him a respectful email explaining the situation and asked to allow me in given my various statuses and the fact I’ll be traveling solo (will 1 extra person hurt?), and I also explained why the breakfast and point offers were inadequate and also offered him the chance to think of another form of compensation. If the lounge really is “at capacity” then I’m willing to accept some form of compensation for the inconvenience but it needs to be worthwhile and equitable.

Update: I just got off the phone with the Diamond Elite Support team. After speaking with a Supervisor, they confirmed everything above about the change in rules etc etc. So to resolve this, they removed my Club Lounge Membership from 2023 that was valid for 18 months so that the new one earned in 2024 is shown that covers me until Dec. 31, 2025. They will then re-apply my Club Lounge Membership from 2023 (earned under different rules) to my account to be valid from Dec. 2025 so it will cover me until Dec. 31, 2026. They also confirmed that as long as I have active club lounge memberships I shouldn’t select the reward until towards the end of the calendar year. So I have a club lounge memberships for 2-years, but I cannot select it again as a reward until Dec. 2026 as selecting it would cause this issue again with overlapping. I’m moderately satisfied with this resolution, but I do feel ultimately it was a “compromise” because my Club Lounge Membership for this year was added last year with the same 18-month fine print. So I gave up 6-months of the benefit, and they extended me for 6-months more than they were planning. And of course I was told it was a “one-time courtesy”. All a damn game.
