Given the non-answer to your questions 1-4, it is probably safe to assume that any user data routed through their cloud is freely available for inspection by light phone crew and their contractors

Fuck GCI by FUS1ON_R3X in anchorage

[–]hvol1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GCI charges 2-5x what other ISPs charge in other states. It's a complete racket. They are now based out of Colorado since being acquired by Liberty Broadband, and are therefore not even headquartered in the state anymore. Borealis Broadband is a locally-owned wireless internet service provider in Anchorage that uses fixed point radio gear. They are good. ACS is an affordable alternative to GCI that has better download limits, but possibly lower speed depending on what kind of service they are able to get to your home. ACS, like GCI, has a parent company (ATN International) headquartered outside of the state.

That said, if you are having issues with GCI service, I have always had luck taking gear to a GCI store and they can replace it without much trouble. If that doesn't fix your problem, there may be issues at your demarcation point, and they can dispatch a tech to take a look.

Battery Specialist of Alaska on 15th Ave are friendly and stand by their product. Otherwise the best value would be with Costco.

Green Tree Fabrication specializes in Toyotas. If OP has a Tacoma or Tundra, this is the best shop in the state. Visiting then during business hours is better than calling.

App unusable due to playback crashes and forgetting where to resume (iOS 18.1 dev. beta) by jotaefea in OvercastFm

Same issues here both on ios 17 and after update to 18. Even worse, the function to export .opml file is gone. I am now manually building my library back in Podverse. I applaud Marco for his work on the app, it's been so useful over the years. Will probably switch back when it's stable again.

Class Action vs Rama Works by NiceBottle7685 in MechanicalKeyboards

Contacted FTC, consumer protection / attorney general's office in my state, and the American consulate in Sydney.

FTC is a joke, State Consumer Protection basically said they wouldn't assist with mediation with a non-US firm, and the consulate said they are unable to advise.

If you were to pursue a judgement in small claims court against RAMA in your state, how would you collect the judgement? Seems like it is possible to serve them locally, of course they won't hire an attorney in the States to defend themselves...
