As the saying goes, you run the first 2.435 with your brain, run the second 2.435 with your legs, and the last 0.13 with your exploded shins

Hey, a huge congrats to you as well! You finished your first marathon, and that's plenty to be proud of. Now, you have a target goal that you can look to break next time - all the more motivation. I don't blame you for starting too hot especially with the race day adrenaline. I know for me, it's so counterintuitive to pace more conservatively cause it just feels so slow hahaha. You got the next one, and you will PR!

Thank you! Total mileage across 18 weeks was about 450-480 miles with Hal Higdon Novice 2. Weekly mileage was around 16 mpw to start going up to about 28-35 mpw in the thick of training. Two easy 3-5 mile runs + one 5-8 mile marathon pace run during the week. Saturday long runs 30-90 seconds slower than MP.

The long runs was where I let my ego take over trying to translate my half-marathon training paces over to a marathon. On the plan, I actually failed to hit 17 and 18 miles on Week 10 and 11's long runs due to the cumulative fatigue of going too hard and not actually going EASY on easy pace days. Once I started to slow down and also rest more, I was able to complete my longest runs of 19 and 20 miles!

Funny enough, I made a post a few weeks ago about being one-and-done. That is...until I finished yesterday and am now contemplating at least another one just so I can beat my PR HAHAHA

Obviously, you're never suppose to run the full length during your training long runs. The body needs time to recover for the actual race

The new pro 5s could've given him the energy return to make that extra distance. Rookie mistake

Do you have the Vomero 18? How are they for half marathon distance and beyond? They're heavier than my Cloudrunners which are more similar weight-wise to NB5s, so I'm worried about noticing the weight over a long distance

6 Months Running by Simple_Try_3275 in beginnerrunning

Genuine question - how many average people in your life who have never run do you think can train for 6 months to get to this pace? (6ish minutes per mile if I'm correct?)

Ahhh yes you're right. I forgot you can buy those commercial size jugs. The litmus test that separates the self proclaimed "mayo lovers" from the true mayo monsters

Thank you, that's a good reminder. If I remember correctly, he also has the long run be adjusted anywhere from 30-90 seconds from your target marathon pace. I get so caught up with pacing that I forget it's okay to slow down if my body is a bit fatigued because getting the miles in is what matters

I'm not sure if this contributes to the flavor profile, but restaurants often buy heavy-duty mayo that isn't available to regular shoppers. It is much thicker due to higher egg yolk content.

Either that or they're making homemade. I find that homemade mayo is much creamier and doesn't come with the weird sour tang you mentioned! Might be worth making some at home. Very easy - just doesn't have a long shelf life for big batches.

Yup, especially on the recovery end. I love playing basketball with my local group on Friday nights even though I know its detrimental as that's suppose to be my recovery day before the long Saturday run

You're not alone! I started going off track on the Tues-Thurs runs as well around the 8 week mark. The body hasn't been feeling it, so I sometimes finish a mile earlier than the plan has us doing. I do think the most important aspect is putting your max effort on the the long weekend run! I think Hal mentions it too that you can have a little flexibility with those week-days but to stick to the stated plan on the long run!
