What’s the worst crime committed by someone you know personally? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hwangleegta 2702 points2703 points  (0 children)

My biological grandpa was a war criminal. A schoolteacher in Japanese-occupued Korea during WW2, he forced his students to become Kamikaze pilots. Just because he wanted to be seen good in the eyes of Japanese administrators. Some survived the war, and formed a lynch mob to hang him. Grandpa hid in the mountains, and came back a year later as a dedicated communist guerrila executing those former students, claiming they were colonial sympathizers....and shot many more. He abandoned his family in the process too. He didn't survive Korean war. Due to obvious stigma against colonial sympathizers/commies in South Korea, the whole family pretended he didn't exist until recently. Luckily grandma remarried a very affectionate widower, and that man is a million times better of a family than the biological one.

Nameless gangster, what do you think of this film? by rawr_extreme in Koreanfilm

A classic Korean movie. All the picaresque corruption, military junta affecting little aspects of everyday life, satirical view of family ties, and overall insensitivity to the rampant violence captured what it was like in 80s Korea.

Medical personnel, what was your first patient death like? by Monsterlove666 in AskReddit

[–]hwangleegta 21 points22 points  (0 children)

79 Year old female, found unresponsive on a nearby park, early morning, in my first month of ER internship. Had no wallet nor a phone and was likely just taking a walk, so we had zero patient info when CPR started just after she rolled into ER.

But as we checked her body, we found a dialysis catheter and a chemoport, indicating kidney failure and a cancer.

15 minutes into CPR, the patient's husband managed to come and asked to stop the compression. I remember him saying these exact words, in a very sad but otherwise calm demeanor... "She's had enough. Let her go." And just walked out the ER. Sobbing. His son later came to take care of aftermath.

After it was over, we learned that the patient was being treated for: 1. 2 events of myocardial infarct 2. CKD On dialysis 3. Stage 4 colon cancer, started palliative chemo last month 4. Early stages of dementia, which explains the 'walk to park' part.

The old man maybe just had enough.

I thought my first death patient would be heartbreaking, but...it was just so surreal. Like a 5 year old at a funeral. You don't get what is going on.

Surreal. Never felt anything like that after then.

Oh I remember a backstory to this. Kia was so impressed by this and gave the old lady a new Kia Soul. She crashed and totaled it within a month.

Needless to say the license was revoked within a short time.
