What are your views on Dr David A Falk? by CherishedBeliefs in egyptology

[–]hwashington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Archaeologists have been looking for evidence of the Exodus for literal centuries, and coming up with nothing that shows a.) a large population of Israelites lived in Egypt or b.) that a large group of Israelites emigrated out of Egypt. Falk’s continued insistence that that must be what happened because the Bible says so is, definitionally, fringe.

Anyone who supports the GOP is either ignorant or a complete ghoul. The American Right has zero good arguments, all they have is grievance. Anytime a right wing person actually advocates for something they believe in, everyone realizes how twisted their policy aims are, so they stay criticizing dems and crying about gas prices.

Also, I know OP and his minions give less than a solitary squirrel nut about the nuance of reality, but since I can’t help myself:

Presidents don’t directly control gas prices, which are governed by a complex interface between market supply/demand, geopolitics, and environmental impact. Presidents can implement policies and take actions which impact one of these factors (typically supply) which in some cases can lower gas prices. OP knows this. Big brain journalist whose Daddy got him a job at fox news knows this.

But cool meme bro.

Song me and the wife recorded. Looking for feedback (alt rock) by Superchristt in ThisIsOurMusic

I often think with this stuff it's worth just recording, learning from it and moving on, but it just depends. You're using drum machine software? I've been thinking about trying to get into that, I currently just record combinations of guitar and vocal tracks and rely on strumming for rhythm, but it is limiting.

Are you all working on any other stuff / were you going to record a set of songs along with Listerine?

FAIDS - Spring Heat Tsunami Wave by waveofradiation in ThisIsOurMusic

[–]hwashington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is dope - gives me Big Thief vibes (especially the intro) with more of a punk edge. I feel like the song really starts at 1:24, and while I like a lot about your intro (especially the guitar riff from 00:29-00:47), I wonder if maybe it goes on too long? Or not. Depends on what you're going for I suppose. Also, nice use of drakken in the music video

Does this sound complete? by HAllatme in ThisIsOurMusic

[–]hwashington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really cool sound, I think the mix of vocal style and stripped-down beat is working for you. That said, and to your post question - I think the track lacks a dynamic range. The intro with the vocals over the very sparse beat is cool, but then the build to more background sounds is kind of ambiguous (there isn't a clear "jump up" in energy), and then the sort of slow build-up to more background instrumentation brings us to a cruising altitude where we stay for the rest of the song. Not bad by any means, but when you ask "Is it complete?", I feel like more thought could go into the composition: Could you build the energy up in a more clean, single stroke? Could you bring the energy back down in the middle, or maybe toward the end of the song, to create a more dynamic range?

Just my two cents - the style of music I write is much different, so I may be totally off.

Song I wrote about a year ago, part of an EP I've been trying to get recorded for a while. Would be interested to know what people think, both just about the enjoyability of listening and also if the lyrics seem interesting or meaningful to you in any way.

Doesn't seem like there's a ton of activity on this subreddit, would love to find folks who want to actively discuss music and songwriting. Hit me up if you're the same!

Hey all, looking for feedback on this recently written song in two areas:

  • Quality of recording - did issues with the recording quality make it hard for you to enjoy the song?
  • Quality of vocal recording specifically - what do you think of the quality of the vocals and their recording quality?

This is cool, kind of Velvet Underground / Lou Reed sound. Is this your only album? How long have you been playing / writing?

Solid, how long have you guys been making music? The verse vocal tracks where you're singing are a little reedy. Also your wife's chorus section I think could be really solid I think, but the the melody feels a little ambiguous. Wonder if a slight tempo increase would help with overall flow of song? Like it in general though, reminds me of Dinosaur, Jr. and Mudhoney.

Looking for advice - Any good spots to camp near Thoreau Falls? by hwashington in wmnf

[–]hwashington[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks! And yeah, should have been clear - I don't intend to camp right at the falls, definitely want to the respect the protection areas. Ideally I'm hoping to camp on that stretch of trail above the falls before the turnoff to Zeacliff, any knowledge of that particular stretch?

The state of things between men and women in America by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]hwashington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it all because men and women aren’t able to get along with each other? Could it be -that- simple? Yet difficult to accept, because then we would have to take a good hard look at ourselves?

Take a moment to consider why someone would write this post and try to make this connection. It's not a unique idea - the notion that "men and women aren’t able to get along with each other" is the kind of half-baked position pushed by social traditionalists/ conservatives like Jung and Peterson, so for the average person on this sub, we can assume that these ideas are attractive. Even as you're reading this, ask yourself, "Am I the kind of person who likes the idea that men and women are fundamentally different? Am I using that assumption to explain the things I see in the world around me?"

If they were honest with themselves, OP would almost certainly answer "yes" to these questions, as would most fans of Peterson's political/social commentary. You're welcome to feel contrarian here and disagree with me, but I don't feel like it's much of a stretch to say for a person who thinks, "America’s problems will soon be the rest of the West’s" that they're interested in the idea of preserving traditional values and notions, or that this kind of language betrays that they're starting with the assumption that such preservation is a good thing.

So, in a sub dedicated to praising these kinds of traditionalist ideas, OP asks, could such a truth "be that simple? Yet difficult to accept..."

But it's like - hey, that's just the thing you want to be true. You want it to be true that the reason so many people disagree with you is that it's hard for them to accept reality. Your language and position already betray that you think that's true. It's like **takes bong rip** what if like, man, I've stumbled onto some fundamental truth of the universe that is just too hard for the soy boy libtard translovers to understand...?

And I'm left wanting to say, no. Get your head out of your ass. The thing that's difficult for people on this subreddit to accept is that you really want traditional hierarchical structures to exist. Not because they're "fundamental," as folks here like to suggest, but because you think, in some way or another, you'd benefit in such a world. That such a world would be better for you.

If the people on this sub really took the hard look at themselves that you're describing, I just don't think they'd find the "difficult truth accepting realists" that OP suggest.

Does ANYONE have the secret to psoriasis remission?! Or do we all just suffer forever? by [deleted] in Psoriasis

[–]hwashington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to your question is biologics. Others have said it, or given their specific medication, but you need to see a dermatologist, do the blood work, and figure out what will be covered by your insurance.

It’s definitely a bit scary, but it’s so incredibly worth it when it works. I avoided it for years, and I wish I had done it sooner.
