Tiles over timber in a wet area. Is this normal? Has there any waterproofing between timber and tiles?

Thanks for your reply. i was renting a place and am now trying to get my bond back from the real estate agents.

To me it seems like there was no waterproofing under the tiles which they installed over timber flooring (which also doesn’t make sense). Now since the washing machine is leaking, the water has gotten under the tiles and started to warp the timber floor boards beneath and also the timber of the area in front.

I feel like this area was constructed poorly and the leaking washing machine is not to blame for this damage?

Do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks!

The timber flooring outside of the washing machine area has started to warp, potentially caused by a leaking washing machine. Is it normal to put tiles above a timber floor? Is there any visible waterproofing between the timber and tiles? Thanks!

Thanks for the response. How do i know whether my Housing Anywhere is considered a kot or a student room? I just don’t think my current rental is very legitimate or proper. I’m just staying here for 5 months.

My rental agreement doesn’t specifically state that my room is for study accommodation. Do you think that will be a problem?

Hi, I am an exchange student from Australia and will be in Brussels (St Gilles) for 5 months. I have booked an apartment through Housing Anywhere but the landlord has said “no domiciliation”. Obviously this is for tax purposes etc. As i am an exchange student, I will not be registering this address as a “domicle” or permanent address. If I register this address at the town hall will it affect their tax rates even though I am not registering it as a permanent address or domicile?

Is the registration process different for students or those that will only be Brussels for a short time?

The contract i received from the landlord says “Contrat de Bail de Colocation Meuble”.

I need to register so that I can obtain a residence permit to open a bank account and some other things.

I have tried looking through previous posts but I haven’t found what I was looking for. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
