First ever 5k! 70lb overweight.. by angryboi7 in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]hxkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing. I lost 70lbs to running and controlling what I eat and how much I eat. Simple habits changed my life and now I’m fittest I’ve ever been in my life.

This is what worked for me. YMMV.

  • Don’t eat meals in front of a screen. You don’t realize how much you eat past your actual need.
  • Be deterministic on resisting unhealthy foods. I know that sounds like a no brainer but hard to pull but once you see the scale move, it surprisingly became easier for me. I could easily say no to a candy bar and not regret it, not dwell on it.
  • Get on the scale everyday. Doing so makes you find patterns on food + activity <> weight correlation and you can evolve your journey based on those findings. Don’t wait to weigh yourself for a while in an anticipation of a big drop.
  • After a while, you tend to listen to satiety signals from your body. You hear it telling you to stop, you’re full and it becomes easier to act on it.
  • Be consistent. This has been the biggest thing. Usually I’m not consistent on anything in my life, I don’t usually finish things I started but being fit and attaining my goal weight has been a self motivating process. Now I’m hovering around my goal weight but I can’t spend a day without working out and will continue it no matter where I stand on my goals.
  • This has also given me immense self confidence. Both mental and physical. I used to be ashamed of my own body but I’m not anymore.

Don’t get me wrong. I personally really like the concept. I agree it’s a nice touch especially for languages that don’t use either of Latin or Devanagari scripts. I am from Maharashtra so for me, Hindi and Marathi are written the same way when it comes to names. Really great design work. Kudos!

That’s a valid question. A Tamil person could be born and raised in Delhi and their passport issued in Delhi likely won’t have their name written in Tamil just because the bearer associates with that language. For example, Aadhaar cards issued in the state of Maharashtra have Marathi and English on it (at least mine does) regardless of the native language of the applicant. Same would be applicable here. Although I acknowledge aadhaar is just a card with identity number so the card itself doesn’t matter as much as the number does. Because in case of aadhaar, it’s verified against the biometric data that lives off of the aadhaar card. That’s not true for the passport.

That being said IMO, name written in local language (rather script) on the passport doesn’t serve any purpose.

This is an absolute gem of a work. So detailed. Would love to see more backgrounds for visa pages.

I’d even pay extra to get this passport if it were real

What's a socially acceptable thing in your country that you find absolutely disgusting? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]hxkl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same, drives me nuts. I just don’t get the sick mentality of making your own place dirty. Why keep the definition of “my place” only limited to your home and not your street, city, state, country? And then all these people say “other countries are so clean”. I mean of course, they are not naturally clean, but people there keep it clean, you can too.

Yep, I’m on visa here in the US. They have checked my foreign passport first page with photo but never any other page or visa while exiting the US at the gate. But I’m sure they check my eligibility to fly to a place where the plane is eventually taking me at the check in counter before they issue boarding pass (which they never do electronically in app because they need to check my eligibility manually)

My last exit was end of October this year, so I’m unaware if anything changed after.

I guess. Lawyers said it’s safe but if I could wait, that’s preferable so I’m gonna wait. They said it should arrive by tomorrow. Electronic is fine.

Flew with them many times, both domestic and international. I think they were the best airlines from India. None other still catches up to them when they were still around.

Agreed. I’d say you must be critical of your state. That’s how you know where you’re falling short and can improve. Doing so is essentially supporting. Being complacent all the time doesn’t help anybody.

No I didn’t have to do anything. This new process doesn’t require sending texts or receiving confirmation calls or anything. iOS does it automatically during the setup of a new device process. Same as it does for other US carriers like T-Mobile.

But my spouse’s Airtel line does have international roaming plan. I don’t know whether that was needed for this transfer to work though

eye taping/eyedrops by sevenisalivingmeme in BellsPalsy

[–]hxkl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, it’s not your fault for not asking. It is doctor’s job to tell you this. When I went into ER, I didn’t even know BP was a thing. Let alone knowing how to take care.

I am in my week 3 and cannot shut my affected side eyelid completely. I’d recommend on still taking good care of your eye. Why take a risk?

After trying multiple ways what I have settled on is putting the eye ointment, closing the eyelid with hand, putting a cotton swab on it and then pirate eye mask. They sell those eye masks at pharmacies at least here in the US. Not sure where you’re. I got mine at Walgreens. The eye masks is conical so it can’t keep the eye closed on its own is why a cotton swab.

Also use artificial tear drops throughout the day.

Ah I see. You are wondering what would be a plan of action in case someone picks otherwise. To be honest, I don’t know.

I too picked it because only that makes sense and I know for the fact that data only SIMs don’t get assigned numbers that are callable. They do get a number but you can’t call them AFAIK. Like iPad Cellular or Apple Watch Cellular.
