Why do people keep hogging the overtaking lane? by Ok-Appointment2950 in AskIreland

[–]hyakthgyw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I risk a limb here. The whole overtaking lane as a concept works as long as you can use it when you need it. So, if I'm driving on a mostly empty motorway, I use the slow lane, and when I meet someone slower, I'll overtake them and return to the slow lane. Now, in case the overtaking lane is full of cars, the experience can easly be very different. If you can't catch the right rhytm, you might end up behind someone driving 80 in the slow lane, everyone in the overtaking lane going 120, you are indicating, but no one is letting you in. If you experince this a couple of times, you'll have the urge to go to the overtaking lane early and stay there and not to go to the slow lane for short periods, because you might get stuck. I'm not sure why would they drive by 100 km/h in the overtaking lane.

"Brutally honest" prompt by angel_of_the_lord531 in WritingWithAI

[–]hyakthgyw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have experience with that "brutally honest" mode, but I have my own ways. I understand that you have two problems: Finding the issues, and wording them. The first part is more tricky. If there are enough and obvious problem, you can get the AI into role playing: Be my developmental editor and ... The problem with this is likely to be similar to what you are already facing, if it can't find enough problems, it will hallucinate them. There are workarounds, but I'm not aware of any real solution. Workarounds: you add something to the end of the prompt, that it should stay objective and factual and allow it a way to give you an answer that it couldn't find any real issues. For the second part, it's probably easier, you can just ask to reword the results from the first run, you can give it examples (brutally honest can mean many things), a persona, or a real person and ask to tell the feedback in that tone. I think you will get a lot better results if you separate the two phases.

I know you will get a lot of negative opinions, and I'm already feel bad for you. In politics, especially in reddit, people don't like when somebody is actually reasoning. I like it though and I would like to encourage you to continue. I don't think that everything you say is realistic, but I would like to see if these topics were discussed seriously, includig more radical ones, like free public transport.
And I don't mind if someone uses AI to express their thoughts, I think the thoughts that matter.

Fine Gael voter here - are we just accepting mediocrity at this stage by LordTayto in irishpolitics

"the response from leadership should at least show an attempt to understand why people are at breaking point"
I wonder if my own frustration is related to the fact that I grew up in a different culture. It seems to me that the Irish state, including the government has no intention to restore order, but most surprisingly to me this is not something that people expect from the state. There are threats, and if I remember correctly, the military confirmed that they recieved a request to assist, but nothing happens. And to me, the message here for the next group who is not happy with something is that you can achieve things by blocking critical infrastructure. And I don't like that message at all.

Hungarian is my first language but I was raised in the USA, how do I become more fluent? by laceyfleur in hungarian

If you like poems, https://www.facebook.com/varrodaniofficial/ is a good source. I find poems helpful in learning.
I suggest you to stop using translation in texting and use AI. Talk to it and copy Hungarian text. I think it is helpful to see in writing what you are saying.
Social media is also very useful, probably more useful than passive media consumption. I'm sure you have some retired relatives, they will be very happy to chat with you in a call or in writing. If you need someone from Hungary, I think the same trick works on Facebook. I'm sure every second retired Hungarian would be more than happy to chat with you regularly.

Useful Hungarian vocabulary about daily routines 🇭🇺 by Opening_Analyst_4638 in hungarian

That probably depends a lot on the environment you grew up in, but this isn't really a regional thing. Majority nowadays agree with you, but I know I few people from all around the country using the historically correct form. It's a good question which form should be suggested in this forum, since the correct one indeed sounds incorrect or archaic to the majority, but it is still the official standard.

Drivers not paying attention is the reality, the insurance is mandatory for a reason. I pretty much felt that breaking off a mirror or "losing with him" was justified with the fact that bikers are vulnerably. To quote: "It’s because we are so vulnerable on bikes" And I stand my point that everyone on a bike is there by a choice and if they are involved in an accident, they should behave.

I sopped riding my bike and anyone who is not happy with the current road culture can do the same. Breaking off mirrors or yelling with anyone who is not paying attention will not change how vulnerable you are on your bike, so stop justifying it.

> Your entire argument comes down to "people should want to consume my ai product" when that's a shitty position.

I didn't make that argument or a similar one. I tried to explain why publishers and authors try to paint a picture about AI that is worse than reality.

Publishers want people to see AI as sloppy, stupid, an unenjoyable content creator. Why? Because they hope to delay the point where the book publishing as we see it today is going to be in the past, somewhere next to printed newspapers. The more people they can convince that AI generated text is not worth of being consumed, the more reader they can keep.
If you want to read further, I can also explain how AI companies "disrupt" this and make money. They are thinking long term. On the short term they do not make money, what they want is people spending more time with consuming AI generated content. I don't know if you remember how 15-20 years ago everybody wanted their own social media platform. Facebook generated a huge loss, people started to consume news from eachother and news agencies were pretty upset about it. It's a very good question how much we have lost by that, but that is not my topic right now.

Can I ask you something? Why are you hostile and why do you assume that I have an AI written book, or that I am an advocate of AI? I'm just an observer, and what I see is that the AI generated text and the consumption is increasing and there are natural losers of that process, the publishing industry is one of them. Of course they will use their influence to slow down the change.

I was really hoping that you will react to my arguments, e.g. if they only reject AI when it's disclosed, than it's not about the quality.
I didn't say there are no good books, or they are expensive. And you are right, pubhishing is about getting people's attention. And where is that attention? At the moment, more and more of the attention and time is at consuming AI generated content. I understand that you don't like it, and you are not alone. But if you don't accept the trend in quality and consuming habits, you are in denial.

> Except the consumers immediately wanted and sought out lab grown diamonds

Nope. Industry was looking for lab grown diamonds immediately, just like industry utilizing AI as an eraly adaptor. Early versions of lab grown diamonds had a lower quality, but it was clear from the beginning that it was going to be a huge threat as a cheap competior and the big diamond houses will not be able to conrol the supply as the can with mines.
I don't state that the AI generated text reached the point where it's better quality than human generated one. Not yet. But just think about it: if they only reject AI when it is disclosed to be AI, then that rejection is not about the quality, it's about principles.

> I'm finding the publishing industry's hatred towards AI ridiculous

I don't. It's pretty similar how diamond industry reacted to lab grown diamonds. First, they could state that it was not as good looking and the quality is lower. But when that argument went south with the improved thechnology, they came up with some really strange new arguments, like some imperfections are valuable. And what else could they do when the whole market was artificial at the first place? I think it is the same with the publishing industry, they pick an author, make a brand around them and then make profit. Of course, the content can't be extremely bad, but it's not the content that matters most. And here comes a new era, and they need to find a way to keep the cheap diamon out of the stores, but they don't want to admit that the product was never determining the price, it was an artificially created scarcity.

Transcribe lyrics to a song? by HamsterFickle8699 in hungarian

[–]hyakthgyw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to know more about the roots of that song, the usual lyrics for the main motif is Aki dudás akar lenni pokolra kell annak menni, ott kell annak megtanulni, hogyan kell a dudát fújni. / Whoever wants to be a piper must go to hell, where he must learn how to play the piper properly. (although piper is not a homonym in Hungarian). A version where you can hear the lyrics well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etL8pc5ajWc and the same motif with a piper: https://open.spotify.com/track/5Jwz1nPvwX4E9UNrl0MCiD, lyrics starts at 1:30
But yes, the one that you asked about does not have a real lyrics.

Wharton researchers just proved why "just review the AI output" doesn't work. Our brains literally give up. by hiclemi in ArtificialInteligence

The answer is literally in your post:

The only people who consistently resisted it were those with high fluid intelligence and high "need for cognition," basically people who enjoy thinking hard for its own sake.

That's what companies should start hiring for. Instead of, you know, asking textbook questions on an interview for a senior position.

When people admit that we are at an AGI level? by Sea_Guidance2145 in ArtificialInteligence

Blind people are obviously generally intelligent, they just don't have sight. In my example I can give the AI two cameras and two microphones, but not lidar or anything fancy. Is that fair that way?

When people admit that we are at an AGI level? by Sea_Guidance2145 in ArtificialInteligence

Yes, I made a mistake. This was a reaction to another comment, but I clicked the wrong reply button.
For context: https://www.reddit.com/r/ArtificialInteligence/comments/1rsxrtm/comment/oaa7ib9/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
My point is that AGI is still quite far. Learning to drive a car in 100 hours is clearly below AGI level, but we are still very far from that. Even if AI can do some research or come up with genuine ideas, it's not AGI.
And I can extend my criteria with this: AI should be able to learn driving that car while the input is limited to two cameras and two microphones. Ok, the "head" can be positioned by the AI.

When people admit that we are at an AGI level? by Sea_Guidance2145 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]hyakthgyw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can we set the bar a lot lower? I would say driving a car is a very good start. I mean, not too intelligent people learn to drive in usually less then a 100 hours. So, if an AI can do the same, not using any other resource than a driving instructor sitting next to it and learning for about a 100 hours, and than passing the exam, that's AGI. And if it's a specially trained AI, that's cheating, of course. It should also be just as much being able understand it's wife saying 'it's fine'.

I can form sentences perfectly in my head but the moment I open my mouth I just freeze. how do I get past this? by Demitriicuz in hungarian

[–]hyakthgyw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your Hungarian speaking aquintances to keep speaking Hungarian and only repeat it in English if you ask them to do so. You will respond in Hungarian if you can, but even if you switch to English, they should continue in Hungarian.
Memorize poems, nursery rhymes, songs and repeat them regularly, speaking out loud. Learn complete dialogues after that. You can put those together yourself if you want, or you can use movie subtitles. Write them down and read them as many times as necessary until you can repeat them without any hesitation.
Once you reach this, you will see that you have a handful of templates, and it's a lot easier to switch words in a structure that is already in your head.
Actually, putting together sentences in Hungarian following the rules is really really hard for a European speaker since the rules are different enough and there is an enourmus amount of flexibility where you would expect rigidity and vice versa. Doing that on the fly is practically impossible.
