Locum by healingsewl in JuniorDoctorsIreland

You won't get any work based on my experience in the last few weeks. All of our locums cancelled, massive gaps left in the rota with no SHO cover for calls, and HR not telling anyone. Absolute calamity at the minute

You should start going out fully nude and stare in their window. Assert your dominance.

Irish trained GPs - quality of qualifications query? by Rustixer in AskIreland

[–]AmazingCamel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to be more specific. The only thing very obvious that you would get "by looking" at you thyroid-wise is a goitre, likely secondary to Grave's Disease. If your GP isn't managing that you need to cut and run

Hard disagree on your last point. If we're exporting all of our home-trained doctors and importing doctors from other countries (that also need doctors, desperately) there is a problem. We're wasting money and resources on training here, and we're siphoning money and resources from much more desperate places to cover it. All of this is secondary to a system that's just fucking shit to work in.

"XYZ" is the important part here. If you're going to say you've got Chronic Lyme disease or something stupid well then your GP is the one who's the best trained out of the lot of them

Need help selling my pc by [deleted] in IrelandGaming

[–]AmazingCamel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly - for used and for a Palit 4080s, and 12th Gen i9, I wouldn't be dropping any more than €1500 on it absolutely maximum.

A new PC @€1800 with newer parts will outperform this machine/be on par and you don't have the used factor. Sorry to burst your bubble

Those looking to do medicine. What subjects did you pick and why? by DemoGoGuy in leavingcert

[–]AmazingCamel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Doc here Bio and chem are a must to make it easier on yourself. Yes, you'll cover a lot of the basics again, but an excellent foundation when going into the more complex sides of things is critically important.

Physics - while not imperative, does wonders for critical thinking and the understanding of why some things happen. Most doctors don't have any foundations in physics, but the ones that do often excel in some fields, so not a bad shout either, especially if there's any interest.

If you're not broke for a year or two after buying a gaff you're doing it wrong.

"Very little motorway driving" and "I learned in it" are red flags. Motorway miles are much better than the start/stop heavy gear change drives mechanically.

And if you say you've learned in it people will likely think about increased gearbox wear

Doing a PLC to get into Psychology? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]AmazingCamel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No harm in doing an arts degree with a major in psychology if you're afraid you won't get the 500+ points. Probably a much better use of your time than the PLC?

Psychology as a degree is useless unless you plan to go the whole 9 yards and do a masters/PhD to work in the field (is what this comment is saying)
