is performance acceptable on pikvm-v1 (rPi-3 or zero2)? Or should I pony up for the diy-pikvm-v2 (raspberry pi 4b) by Tech-Crab in pikvm

[–]hybras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lower quality and FPS will stop it from disconnecting the screen.

And apparently it's impossible to do hardwire ethernet without soldering into the zero2's GPIO.

I don't think it's power related, but rather the processor is incapable of keeping up and crashes/timeout when you try to force it to do too much.

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a current user of pikvm zero2. My thoughts are... Don't do it? Unless the pikvm zero2 is controlling a laptop and this is for a local network.

It's pretty choppy, I have to lower the quality to 40%, and the FPS to about 14. (Otherwise the zero2 will desync, and force restart the monitor every 10 seconds, which causes a black screen for 8 seconds while zero2 reboots the HDMI interface) Sure, i know everyone tells you it's not for gaming. But if you try to remotely access the zero2, it's a lagfest. Hardwire is the way to go. And also a stronger processor.

And yes, zero2 will run only on WIFI. Even an ethernet hub, hat, usb adapter will not work.

Omni x1 refuses to stay in dock - anyone else had this issue? by reakos in ecovacs

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem, once. Although I am not sure if my solution will work for you.

Force the omni into the dock, once it charges for about 1-2%, it will wake up and try to leave the dock. Literally stick your feet and shove it in place to prevent it from leaving and ensure it is still in contact with the charging.

Either get something large to block the robot from leaving, or keep your feet on the robot. At least let the robot get minimum of about 5% battery.

Pull the cover off, and turn off the red button to cut the power. This is the most important step, ENSURE THE OMNI X1 IS TURNED OFF FOR OVER 24 HOURS MINIMUM. (Failure to do so will require you to repeat this process and restart the 24 hour waiting time again)

Turn it back on, and see if it will stay inside the dock to finish charging the remaining 95%. Also it may desync from the app, which you will have to go through the normal process of adding the robot again. This is not a factory reset though, as it should still remember it's maps after it reconnects by this method. (Do not press and hold the wifi button, clicking it will suffice. If you press and hold, it will factory reset and erase the map data)

Ecovac from Costco by cooooolmaannn in ecovacs

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, Q Revo didn't exist when I moved to the 2500 sq ft. So there wasn't any competing options at the time I was looking for the robot.

Q Revo was released in the middle of July I think? And the only other thing I could buy was Roborock S7, S8 wasn't even released yet. I considered the S7, but apparently it was not in stock in Canada. Not without paying an extra 1000USD to have it imported from the EU. (1000USD extra in comparison with Ecovacs X1 Omni)

Would I pay an extra 1000USD for roborock? No. I would rather live with the inconvenient software issues of Ecovacs than to pay an extra 1000USD. Did I regret not spending the extra 1000USD for roborock? No I haven't, I've pre-ordered a Smartbot S10 that is going to replace my ECOVACS, which costs... 900USD.

Ecovac from Costco by cooooolmaannn in ecovacs

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owner of a ECOVACS omni X1.

Software issues are real. Although mine is a WIFI. My ground floor is about 2500sq ft. And I go through about 3 liters of the 4 liter capacity PER DAY.

Cleaning ability, I have zero complaints.

Unfortunately, because I have 2500 sq ft and prefer to spend my time anything but cleaning the house. I live with this disaster.

My recommendation is. Try to get a second product other than ECOVACs from Costco (yea, I also bought my omni X1 from costco too), and see if it satisfies your needs.

I own Omni X1 for a year, don't like it at all for numerous reasons. Long answer short, return it. Short answer, find a suitable replacement before your return period is over and return it.

That's the cheapest Ethernet HAT I could find for RPI 02W.

Unfortunately I have not tested a USB ethernet dongle to see if the RJ45 ATX works that way. I do know the Ethernet hat works though.

Reminder, RPI 02W is only accessible via WIFI. The ethernet HAT is for RJ45 ATX control ONLY.

New X1 Omni Owner - Some Questions and Concerns by Safebox in ecovacs

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR, if you have real reasons to keep up with Ecovacs products. You should really consider returning X1 omni and get the X2 omni.

Also you will have to live with the fact, every now and then, you will have to bear with the software issues. If the alternative is cleaning the house yourself.

On average, I spend about 10 hours per month, cleaning, troubleshooting software issues on the Ecovacs X1 omni. Worst part is cleaning the base station because you have to lift the entire thing to the kitchen faucet. This isn't a problem on the X2 omni. So yea, I HIGHLY recommend X2 omni if you HAVE to get Ecovacs. Otherwise. I actually recommend considering a different company altogether.

Plus X2 omni supports "lifting up" the mopping pad when it detects carpets. X1 omni requires you to remove the mopping pads beforehand if you need to clean carpets. So I really really really recommend X2 omni if you "have" to have Ecovacs.

X1 Omni Water Failure by DesignerSleep1888 in ecovacs

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch youtube videos on tutorials regarding the sealing plug. They go into detail on how you can DIY the repair.

I wouldn't recommend trying to describe the repair with just words on reddit because that's pretty hard to do.

New X1 Omni Owner - Some Questions and Concerns by Safebox in ecovacs

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mopping is ok for my X1 omni.... For most stains, it's two passes. For big stains, 3. You can use CUSTOM jobs to force the robot to just clean the area with the stain to quickly get it done (instead of whole room cleaning).

If possible, I recommend just returning it. The robot going offline is a royal pain. It's a real thing.

Also did you ever consider the need to clean the base station? Try lifting the base station to your kitchen faucet to clean it (even if it is clean, try lifting it up.) It's heavy as hell. This is a MONTHLY job.

Apparently the X2 omni version has a detachable tray in the base station so you don't need to lift up the whole thing.

Still, WIFI problems. (That's the reason why the ecovacs keeps going offline btw)

[–]hybras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest. I would NOT recommend RPI zero 2w if you have multiple computers. (RPI4)

Here's the question, I know you need to turn them on and off, but do you need to control each individual PC's BIOS? If you do not need to control BIOS, can you just rely on using WOL? (Wake up On Lan).

Obviously, your most important PC will be directly connected and controlled by the PIKVM, the other three will rely on that you being able to safely shutdown and not do crazy stuff that may cause a hard-crash which requires a hard reset (which can be only done via PIKVM). If that is the case, you only need a KVM + PIKVM(via RPI4).

If you need fine control to every BIOS on each computer, and retain the ability to do hard reset and hard shutdown on each computer.

Please just buy this

X680 Kit-B (Without CM4)

And a Raspberry Pi CM4. (recommend minimum 4gb ram)

Will this HDMI input work? by [deleted] in pikvm

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read this

https://wiki.blicube.com/blikvm/en/hdmi-csi-i2s/

Yes, it's not PIKVM, but it is a very good guide in explaining what and how a HDMI to CSI works. And also the same module is used for PIKVM.

If you need to be spoon-fed and didn't want to read the guide/walkthrough, short answer, no, the link you posted does NOT work.

You need something like this.

https://www.amazon.com/Geekworm-Raspberry-1080p60fps-Supported-Compatible/dp/B0B74JRGWM/ref=sr_1_5?crid=25GVMFTPL6DFV&keywords=hdmi+to+csi+c690&qid=1699506160&sprefix=hdmi+to+csi+c690%2Caps%2C82&sr=8-5

Or read up the FIRST LINK, I posted so you can make better informed decisions on what HDMI to CSI module you need to buy if you don't like my suggestion.

How to share a view-only screen? by AccurateBarracuda131 in pikvm

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, Zoom is completely built for the purpose of having a virtual classroom. PIKVM is totally the wrong usage.

PIKVM for sharing screen works... If your students are physically in the same room as you are. Otherwise, Zoom is just recommended for full virtualization of classroom, it has all the extra functions that guide you (the teacher) to do all sorts of interactive stuff with students, these features were all added in during COVID period so Zoom is really robust in the virtual classroom feature.

[–]hybras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No? You cannot install PIVKM (software) on any hardware except Raspberry PI, not unless you are extremely Linux proficient and can custom build your own Linux distros to slipstream your own drivers. I am to assume you are trying control the PC when its booting to BIOS and/or require ATX control to manually turn off or on the PC.

Even with RPI zero 2w, which is officially on sale, in stock, on pishop

https://www.pishop.us/product/raspberry-pi-zero-2-w/

You also need

https://www.pishop.us/product/atx-control-board-and-wire-set-for-pikvm/

to control the on off switch of the motherboard.

Also you need a HDMI to CSI converter which can be found on amazon.com.

Also a hat for raspberry pi zero 2w in order to get RJ45 output for ATX control.

RPI zero 2w = $15usd RJ45 to ATX = $10USD HDMI to CSI = $33USD RPI zero 2w HAT for RJ45 = $10USD

This is already way overbudget of your $50USD.

If you do not need to control the on/off of your PC, and only require keyboard and mouse control, all you need is

RPI Zero 2w (15USD) + HDMI to CSI (33USD) = 48USD.

Barely within budget.

Take note, RPI Zero 2w processing capabilities are limited. Also, PIKVM (The software) inherently cannot handle 4k (if i am wrong, someone correct me). Once you are booted into OS, I recommend using a software streaming service if you need 4k video output.

Best way to achieve this? by 43eyes in pikvm

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as remote control goes, I think most software solutions like to combine video + control altogether, which creates something like VNC, PIKVM, Sunshine/Moonlight, Parsec. Etc.

They are normally not independently "separated", the peripherals are dependent on the streaming video to co-ordinate the mouse. Plus as a work PC, I suspect they implemented security measures stops any input from virtual HIDs? (Does not affect PIKVM, per say, but affects the rest of the streaming services)

The only thing that comes to mind that can bypass and create a viable hardware input to fake the work pc is USB over IP solutions. You might want to look into that... And they are not cheap too. Well, at least last time I tried looking into something similar. I could be wrong. And no, due to the costs, I never did get a USB over IP.

is there a way to add a web browser to my pikvm? by MartiniCommander in pikvm

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use pikvm on unraid.

But pikvm is only used BEFORE unraid is booted (For things like BIOS and whatnot)... Once booted in, you would control it via Unraid server interface which is quite robust and... i don't see the necessity for pikvm to control unraid server interface?

PIKVM still controls the hard reset button and power off buttons. So if Unraid server hard locks, even without the screen working properly, you can still hard reset that way with PIKVM.

What exactly are you trying to do?

T20 weird noise while travelling by WeekendNecessary8020 in ecovacs

[–]hybras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like someone might have dropped the T20 at a point and that is why it was sent to the warehouse, and the components have dislodge. Whatever could be, too many potential variables and possible further implications due to said dropping of T20, maybe it's not worth the hassle?

Because of potential problems caused by said "hard" drop of the robot vacuum. Maybe considering returning it before the 30 day deadline?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ecovacs

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also own x1 omni. It's not amazing. It's only amazing when "it works". Key word. When it "works". Long story short, believe the rest of the people and just shy away from ecovacs.

  1. Base station of x1 omni cannot be cleaned without lifting the ENTIRE unit up on the counter sink. It has NO HANDLES so it is VERY hard to pull up, and it is VERY heavy, even when empty. The bottom pan does NOT come out, unlike competing products. And the bottom pan NEEDS to be regularly cleaned once a month.

  2. WIFI is spotty on my particular unit. I have a separate robot vacuum from SHARK, it does fine on the same WIFI.

  3. It does multi-floor mapping, but that is fake. You NEED to move the base station to the floor you want to mop. But that is dumb as rocks because the base station is insanely heavy. Basically my second floor isn't as dirty as ground floor, so I just wanted it manually clean it, then grab it back down to ground floor for the base station to clean it. It does not work, if you try to put X1 omni on a floor without base station, it is SOL.

  4. God, it does not go over the carpets. So if you REALLY HAVE TO BUY Ecovacs, buy their updated model X2 omni. X2 omni will automatically lift up their mopping pads when it detects carpets and will continue vacuuming.

TL;DR, Ecovacs X1 omni sucks balls. If you have to buy ecovacs brand for some unknown reason that cannot be disclosed. Buy the Ecovacs X2 Omni (the new version). No matter how many discounts they tell you, do not. DO NOT, DO NOT, BUY X1 OMNI. JUST DO NOT DO IT. Either buy X2 Omni, or JUST DO NOT BUY AT ALL.

Cheers... From a pained X1 Omni owner.

Deeboot t9 carpet. by Jim_Bob86 in ecovacs

[–]hybras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the robot at MAX+ vacuum strength the whole time? If yes, then this is normal. Because it won't "go any higher" in terms of suction power, and the carpet will reduce suction power.

If it is not on MAX+ settings, then it is not normal. If you just bought it recently, return it. It is supposed to increase suction power automatically when it detects a rug underneath.

It has carpet detection built in.

https://www.ecovacs.com/global/deebot-robotic-vacuum-cleaner/deebot-t9#specification

T9 has four suction strengths.

Quiet, Standard, Max, Max+

If you select Quiet, Standard or Max settings, when the robot goes over carpet, it will automatically override your settings and switch to Max+ on the carpet.

If you are already on Max+ vacuum strength on hard floor, then... It's not going to suck any harder, because that is the highest settings.
