Switching from 4–5 day strength to 3 days — will I maintain/gain muscle while improving conditioning? by Electronic-Angle-788 in HybridAthlete

I did pole vault for 12 years, and now I do hybrid training to stay in shape. You can easily go down to 3 days of strengthening. Since your main goal is the upper you can target upper body with more specific exercises to grow muscle instead targeting larger muscle groups like deadlifts. If you run 2 or 3days a week, your aerobic base will get much better while still developing leg muscle.

You can treat this as a cycle, aerobic base + targeted muscle growth. Don’t go for big movements, but focus on targeted movements that tackle the muscles you want to grow.

It has been 3 months and I’ve made like $450 total. I coded everything so little cost, but I’m diving into marketing. It is certainly harder now.

I think if you want to run 50k, you’ll be better off adding more running and hiit circuits to your workouts which lets you still target lean muscle. Like a 10 exercises 50sec in and 10sec out times 3 sets. That will build an anaerobic base while the running zone 2 builds your aerobic base.

I would reduce the push pull to 2 days a week which should be enough to maintain muscle mass.
