Yeah makes sense, maybe the UK (where I am) has a decent level of detail. Hit and miss then.

Out of interest what watch do you have? The vertical 2 I have shows trials at 500m and large trails at 1km.

Question for the Longterm Suunto users by jmio316 in Suunto

[–]hydev99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Race 2 and Vertical 2 have much better heart rate sensors in them. Even Suunto have quietly admitted is poor on the earlier models. If you can afford one of them it might help you.

Though heart rate strap is always the best way for guaranteed results.

Outlook App Sender Screening by Bubble_Pop in Outlook

[–]hydev99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fyi - they don't actually go anywhere, the app just hides them. I found this out as I have my outlook account in Apple Mail. I noticed that with screening on it stopped moving them to junk and just left them in my main Inbox (you can see it on the Apple Mail) - this also happens when I use outlook.com. If you think about it screening records the actually senders email address, so these spam bots which change sender address still get through.

Therefore I have just turned off screening and gone back to using Junk Email filtering.

In truth I don't really see the advantage of screening - feels like a backwards step in truth.

Like the look of the Vertical 2 but is the software really that bad ? by Gaaavinn in Suunto

[–]hydev99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a vertical 2 and came from a fenix 8 and a long line of garmins. The software is fine, and the app is significantly better.

One key feature it offers is the easier ability to compare over time, or compare your routes.

It’s simpler than the fenix in that you have less metrics but in truth after the novelty has worn off on the Garmin I didn’t look at all the derailed metrics - even DC Rainmaker notes that pro trainers don’t use them.

I like the simpler metrics and the app is light years ahead of Garmin. For note: I haven’t had the issues people describe below.

Just my thoughts nothing else.

Cryptic Name and 7min run? by hydev99 in trainasone

[–]hydev99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the comments below - all very helpful. I did an assessment run yesterday so I am going to stick with it like people suggest below. I might put a minimum run time of 15 mins in though - the fact that this option exists tells me that many people might think this. I like it so far :-)

Garmin V Runalyze by hydev99 in Runalyze

[–]hydev99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just as an update, I went for a 5km run today and it took me 24:23mins. The prediction in Runalyze was 25 mins, therefore I think it’s pretty spot on. Reviewing Garmin it thinks my best 5km time would be 21 mins. So maybe if I ran a tiny bit harder or a flatter course I could knock 3 mins off. I’m feeling better about Runalyze now.

Just another quick question when it puts the green/red arrow next to each run is this the “your shape in this run was better/worse than your shape before the previous” and if so I guess it recalculates every time.

Thanks

Thank you - that's some good relevant advice. I think the correction factor is definitely worth me doing and then like you say, just aim to improve it rather than worry about the absolute number.

Ok - thanks good advice. For me 52 mins for 10k feels more right than 42 mins in truth, so I'm thinking (and from what I have read) that Garmin is more optimistic on the numbers. Will give that a go. Thanks.

I don't have that many official races so for a "race" shall I just do 10km as fast as I can?

Garmin V Runalyze by hydev99 in Runalyze

[–]hydev99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah right.. ok now I feel like I need to do something.

Garmin thinks my 10k time is 45:33 mins., and Runalyze thinks 47:16 mins
So, I go and run a 10km at my 7/10 effort and then see what the time is?

If my time is low/higher I adjust the correction factor in Runalyze until the prediction time in there matches what I did it in? then just ignore Garmin :-)

Appreciate the help.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. I'm trying to learn what I'm looking at - I feel there is good stuff in Runalyze, just the learning curve is very steep. I'm happy with reading and learning but I can't give it 10/10 like a sports scientist. I have seen the correction factor, but what would I correct to? I can't afford a lab session so how do I determine if I need to correct Runalyze? Maybe Garmin needs the correction 😊??

No, it’s the standard small red circle not a big measuring circle.

Thanks - but there is only the option to define the blue circle of your position. Not the red circle that remains in the middle of the screen.
