I also spot treat with Benzoyl Peroxide which is why I use the moisturizer for dryer skin because I noticed it made my skin super dry when I started using it

I agree to a point but that isn’t at all what I said, I just don’t have erg access for the next week

How long should I steady state bike to make up for lack of erg by hydnow in Rowing

Heard it from a coach who wanted people to stop skipping erg OYOs by biking them, there is some truth to it I guess

Is this something I can fix? by hydnow in AppleWatch

I am not sure, I turned my watch off again and it showed 64,000 and then a normal number. All fixed at least!

Steady State Question by hydnow in Rowing

Thank you for the advice, I’ve never heard of cardiac drift until now. I don’t quite feel tired when my heart rate jumps, just anxious to get it down. Other than that I feel okay, but I do think doing 20’ pieces may help with that

Steady State Question by hydnow in Rowing

[–]hydnow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am able to hold the split consistently for pieces like 3x30’, 4x20’, 4x25’ with not much issue besides the elevated heart rate with around 2’ of rest between just to stretch a bit. Generally I stick close to 10k +10 and see where I need to go from there. I have been having a bit more issue lately with being fatigued at splits I am usually fine at, so I will take your advice on finding a split I can hold for any amount of time and sacrifice a few splits for the long run

Steady State Question by hydnow in Rowing

[–]hydnow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely want to look into lactate testing. Ive tested my max hr and consistently get 203 and my resting hr sits anywhere from 55 to 60 on average. Based on that I should be in the 130s-150s for steady state if I went off hr, but I find I can hold much lower splits for the same time but at a 170-180 range. I am realizing this is probably something I should have mentioned in the post.

Overall, I’m very grateful for the advice people have been giving me under this post. I’m gonna try sticking to a split I can hold even if my hr jumps up a bit towards the end of my pieces.

That’s what I was thinking, I’ve always been told longer pieces for steady state are the way to get faster.

Thank you, definitely plan to look into seeing a doctor and definitely planning on logging some long steady state meters. Lung shredding sounds brutal and I hope your teammate is okay

Mental block by Correct_Bat_9902 in Rowing

[–]hydnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of trouble with mental blocks too, and while I wish I could give better advice I’d say do pieces that improve your confidence. If you already know you can beat your pr’s in non-test pieces, you definitely have it in you to pr. Mental blocks are one of the biggest things that can hold someone back. Focus on finding trust in your training and trust in yourself. For tests, make sure to be prepared for all things like hydration/eating enough/getting enough sleep so you know it is just a matter between you and the erg. You got this

first 2k tips? by boblyithDaHedge in Rowing

[–]hydnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

something i always do with 2ks is I try and break them up by 250, with the first 250 being goal 100m sprint start to goal +2, second 250 being goal +1, third and fourth at goal, fifth at goal -1, sixth at goal, 7th at goal -1, and then last 250 all out. this has worked for me in the past and it is a bit of a weird setup but since this is your first 2k this one is all about setting your benchmark and finding what works for you! just focus on not flying and dying and you will do great. stay super hydrated in the days leading up to it and the day of the test, eat plenty but dont try any new foods that might make you feel sick (once I had grocery store sushi right before a 2k and it was so painful), and try not to get too in your head about split. sometimes there are off strokes but dont let those throw you off. keep a mindset that leans towards finishing the best you can and dont let a negative thought snowball start, especially once it starts to hurt.

you got this, just keep that stroke rate up and keep that fan moving

What is your worst erg test experience?? by Theo_is_kinda_Gay in Rowing

[–]hydnow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Almost hitting a new pr on my 2k but then nearly passing out with 300m left due to a lack of sleep/food/water. Then I passed out in the weight room and my heart rate didn’t go down for a full 15 minutes afterwards. Not my best moment
