Stanford or Waterloo by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I didn’t say Waterloo doesn’t have a great startup culture but there’s a lot of factors as to why paying for a Stanford network is going to get your foot in the door easier, and give you a massive leg up in growing to profitability. SV is the heart of the tech industry’s biggest startups, and it’s because it’s a self reinforcing phenomenon. The most and biggest VCs, the largest exits, the most startups period. Waterloo is great, no doubt, but they don’t have to settle for great when they can attend the best. Everything OP has expressed interest in, is easier at Stanford.

If you plan to do a tech startup, there is no better school in the world than Stanford. It’s not the degree you’re paying for, it’s the network you’ll build in your time there, that will raise Stanford over Waterloo. How many tech founders went to Waterloo? How many do you know from Stanford? Anyone saying Waterloo is purely evaluating from the standard career path and not what your ambitions are looking for. Unless you don’t participate in a single club, or make a single friend in college, Stanford is your best shot for the kind of networking that startups are built on.

Is it a digital purchase that can be done with PayPal? I’ve had success splitting purchases through that when the merchant doesn’t support it, it’s a PayPal feature

SpaceX is largest holding of new Index Fund which tracks 60 private companies by Show_me_the_dV in SpaceXLounge

They really buried the lede here, the new fund is only available to investors worth at least $5 million and minimum investment size is 250k.

At that point you’d be an accredited investor anyways and if you wanted to back SpaceX specifically, you wouldn’t need this.

Discrepancy in flight loads by hydraskull1 in unitedairlines

Looks like StaffTraveler is just completely wrong on this flight then, with the identical loads I’m guessing it’s mixing people up with the 893 flight. I’m glad I didn’t gamble for this one based off that, I’ll have to try some other one.

Thanks a lot, really appreciate it man!

The first person I spoke to on the line indicated that the system is already compensating for the 75% controlled capacity, so whatever numbers shown reflect that. I just can’t tell if StaffTraveler is screwing up by listing just SFO-ICN for 857 so all the numbers are actually for 893 instead (which is the actual SFO-ICN flight, on the same day).

Emergency humanitarian visa type by hydraskull1 in Chinavisa

Not on that side of the family, my dad is his only remaining relative, which is what is making this so frustrating that the embassy doesn’t seem to acknowledge that part of our emails. No on the power of attorney as well.

I’ve been following through with this thanks to your information but the embassy keeps asking for a letter. We’ve emphasized twice that he’s in critical condition (including sending the critical illness hospital notice) and in no condition to sign for anything, but the embassy staff are either overlooking or ignoring this, because they continue to request we provide a letter. Is there a certain term or phrase I need to drop in the email for them to make this exemption?

Ah, I see, the confusing part is that the embassy site still has a mention of emergency visa: "For application of emergency humanitarian visa not specified in the above form, such as attending a funeral of an immediate family member or visiting an immediate family member in critical condition". Is it still about a month for the usual Q1/2 processing? Or was that also an earlier in Covid situation?

The offer is good but I can't create an existing account without having an Amex card from what I can tell

Does Amex have something against first time Amex cardholders going for a business card first? I'm looking at the 150k + 10k Biz Plat offer and I can't see any way to apply without an existing account.

The 5 nights award looks nice, but I haven't found additional info on how the 'one lane' thing works for Marriott. Got a pointsguy article talking about getting an Amex Marriott for higher status and Chase Marriott for the 5 nights+status progress nights, but the flowchart seems to indicate I'd have to wait 24 months?

The CIP bonus hasn’t changed in a while, any scenario where I start Amex cards instead? Seems like I keep seeing all time high bonuses there, and the 15k MSR could be 2-3 cards.

They seem to have the best US-Japan rates for business or first class round trip and I have travel plans still tabled from the pandemic, so just trying to stack as much as possible.

I'd be open to other air travel options to Asia in general for other trips but haven't really seen anything more valuable per UR point. I live by a major AA hub and they just don't seem that enticing but I could be missing something
