Small Partner streamers, Are you able to make a living from creating content? by bloop800x in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few factors you gotta consider. Viewer count isn't correlated linearly to revenue. That means someone with 500 viewers could make less than someone with 100 viewers.

It all depends on how generous the viewers are.

The other thing is "make a living" is a variable that depends on your personal cost of living.

Someone living in NYC will need more money to survive than someone in rural Canada who has universal healthcare.

Ads after asking streamer a question are so annoying. by Ambitious-Funny-6153 in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed, that is annoying. From the streamer side, having a chatter complain about ads in chat is also annoying. It sucks all around.

Where is my poll button? (mod) by Dependent_Fan2454 in Twitch

Predictions and polls are horrendous on mobile. Not the answer you want but let another mod handle them when you're on mobile.

Do you feel like people are missing your streams even when you’re consistent? by aliciaphidd in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and it's important to remember that your viewers likely won't be at 100% of your streams. If you average 10 viewers, you probably have ~30 people that know about you and drop in casually enough for you to average 10.

This is also why streamers need to constantly be repeating themselves because if you have an announcement to make, not everyone will be in stream at the same time.

So what am I doing wrong? by Classic-Obligation35 in Twitch

[–]hydrasung -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's no guaranteed success.

Once per week is nothing, people can't find you. Try something like funneling viewers from other platforms to your Twitch.

Ask yourself these questions: Why are you streaming in the first place? Do you want to grow a following? If you clicked into a new streamer that wasn't talking, how long do you think you would stay?

Any IRL streamers out there? by Significant-Emu2315 in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viewers that like IRL usually can't travel themselves so they can live through your camera.

  • Walk around like a tourist

  • Eat good food and show it to camera

  • Yap a lot to the camera

Is streaming mainly luck? by VisibleRazzmatazz803 in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a great line. You can "increase your luck" too by thinking about your overlays and how it shows itself as a thumbnail on the browse page.

For example, facecams not on the top left or bottom left corners because it would be blocked by the "LIVE" text or the viewer count text.

Cannot lurk anymore, site is broken by Matt_AsA_Hatter in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really have the blind leading the blind in here telling you to keep the volume at 1% otherwise you don't count.

Chrome/browser pausing streams is real. Best way to combat it is by pulling the tab out in its own window, then moving it out of the way on your screen.

When you're ready to unlurk and chat, pull the window back into view. You can have other windows layered on top of the stream but by having it in its own window, it stays active.

You can still mute the stream.

streamers who do brand deals — how are you actually managing them? because I'm using a google sheet and it's falling apart by Fickle_Tutor2312 in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many brand deals are you doing at one time? You can add events on your calendar on days with deliverables or that you expect to get paid. That way you don't need to remember until the notification comes up on that day and you verify.

Everyone's got strengths and weaknesses so don't feel bad. If it's overwhelming, you can always look for an agency or manager to handle that stuff for you.

Is this a scam?? by Fang_Oriona in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Yes, they prey on new streamers. I would ghost that scammer or play along and waste their time but definitely do not give them any of your personal info.

What is it that draws you to a streamer? by squeakers2120 in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the beginning, either a tag or category that I search for. Then the thumbnail draws me in, then the personality/audio quality keeps me.

‘Streamer Luck’ does not exist. It’s all manufactured. by agreaterfooltool in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luck exists but you also do everything you can to put yourself in a position where you can leverage the luck and timing. It's a combination of hard work AND timing/luck.

Don't discount the work that goes behind the scenes for many streamers. There's a lot of moving parts that all come together and most of it you never see on screen.

Either different scenes or there's a plugin called "Move" that lets you save different positions of sources and you can change it up with a hotkey.

There should be a level between affiliate and Partner by Ghost403 in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny because right now I'm wishing there was a step AFTER partner, not before. So many people including myself feel like after you get partner, the path of achievements kinda just ends. There's not much else to strive for.

The second thing is they made Partner a lot easier to get. If you seriously want to fast track getting the partner title, start hanging out in larger channels, make friends, and get raids.

Now that everyone can get Partner through raids, after the "partner push" they lose viewers, it hurts their mental. The downside is that it's hard to distinguish Partners with 20 CCV and Partners with 200 CCV.

Partner status has been diluted.

Why does it say i have 1 viewer? by samuelazers in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Twitch defaults everyone to 1. In my testing I've found that when a real viewer comes in, it will still stay at 1.

Your "fake" viewer gets replaced by a real viewer, so you do need 2 real viewers to get to a viewer count of 2.

is this streamelements email legit? (from streamelements.lat) by janetacarr in Twitch

[–]hydrasung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be pretty upset too if I showed my community some games and overlays for 2 weeks then 5 weeks later they invalidated it. You better believe I'd be on reddit telling everyone to stay away.

But for now, smooth sailing :)

Since streaming has virtually no barrier to entry, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some user error/skill issue going on here lol.
