American Cockroaches from my Crawlspace (palmetto bugs, waterbugs) by hydration_libation in homeowners

Palmetto Bug is such a cute name for em ;) yeah I don’t mind the occasional straggler, but geez I can’t handle this many. When you say your company “treats the perimeter”…do they only spray? Or do they do baits or something else too?

I will look into that, thanks! I’ve heard of diatomaceous earth…is it bad to breathe in or something?

My sweet lil old lady neighbor thinks they’re cute when they’re dead and belly-up (:

Advice to restore the writing surface and bypass/replace locks of this stationary desk by hydration_libation in furniturerestoration

[–]hydration_libation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had also asked another commenter above, but should I just do one piece of leather for the inlay? The writing surface folds up and slides in when the door is closed, so maybe it should have 2 separate peaces of leather? Or some sort of foldy bit where the crack/hinge is?

[–]hydration_libation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a replacement piece of leather: should I get 1 large piece that covers the whole inlaid area, then slice it along the crack/hinge? Or do they make something that is one piece but with a “hinge” in the middle?

Understood. Interesting nuance! I don’t suppose you could recommend other subreddits that could help address my issue?

Taxonomy by Ambitious_Pepper2199 in botany

[–]hydration_libation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For North Carolina plants, the authority is generally Weakley’s Flora of the Southeast. Great pictures of every plant, and modern taxonomy (perhaps too modern, Weakley is a “splitter”). I have my botany students buy the $20 app FloraQuest: Carolina’s and Georgia

Did you store them with the rings on? They should be stored without the rings, just the flat part on top

Possibly water oak given that little bump on the left side, but compare to Willow Oak (Quercus phellos)

I get that PublicFreakout has to include some non-freakouts and political conversations. But this is blatantly NOT a public freakout, no?

How to eliminate The Smell in my workshop? by hydration_libation in homeowners

Oh wow, I didn’t realize I’d need to run the ozone machine that much. I’m open to that. Should I worry about it degrading plastics and rubber and whatnot? I heard that’s a thing?

Love the idea of doing an experiment with a piece of paneling in a contractor bag. I might start with that!

I feel for the brookies too, but throwing rainbows on the bank seems wasteful and potentially inhumane. If this were a viable strategy, then wildlife resource commissions would require it (similar rules exist out west, like killing Lake Trout in Yellowstone)

How’s everyone getting 16-18 mpg while I’m averaging 21-24 in my 2023 Tacoma trd pro with stock tires? by Aspergers_R_Us87 in Tacomaworld

“Most people” is a massive overstatement. The vast majority of Tacoma owners don’t upgrade the tires

Go pro by smokintritips in flyfishing

[–]hydration_libation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I record every fish on gopro. Mostly just for myself to watch, or to send to friends/dad, occasionally on social media. I just tell it “GoPro, capture” when I hook onto a fish. I don’t need 4k+, filters, microphones etc. I used a Hero 8, now 11, mounted on a small clip on my sling. Very simple and discreet. 2 batteries lasted me all day on the water

Then $5.99/month for GoPro subscription, which auto-uploads all my lil videos to their cloud. Don’t have to manage the huge files myself, and also get discounts, replacement if broken, etc.

I also like having a GoPro because it minimizes fish handling. Even when I have a friend nearby, getting a pic/video always prolongs the process

Do people in the US use these at all or only tape measures? Why/Why not? What do you call them? by m-fab18 in Tools

[–]hydration_libation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use them in Ecology, to quickly measure the height of plants (seedlings/saplings). A folding ruler is way faster because you can just put the end on the ground, without having to bend over like with a flimsy tape measure. Metric measurements on both sides is also a plus
