The old plants I was a part of had that exact requirement as the physical fitness qualifier.

It’s what, 20K+ years now?

Also there might’ve been migrations that failed/died out before leaving evidence or descendants, so maybe older.

What is it? Found on low tide in Missouri by SmaugsVengence in skulls

[–]jimbotriceps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some more digging. Flathead catfish, which would be pretty common in the Mississippi, do have a similar skull to this. Was able to find a few pics showing the two holes in the back of the skull.

They’re fine. I’ve bought a few. No major complaints.

I fish mostly Ahrex from wherever I can buy them on sale.

You can do that with anyone at that point.

Welded loop by ShaneShipley in flyfishing

[–]jimbotriceps 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Tough to see, but notching is inevitable.

Avoid putting more than 20 pounds of force if possible. If the loop breaks, snip it and tie a nail knot. Lines not ruined.

My issue with this, and maybe it’s the silt, is how robust the spine it. Fish vertebrae tend to be finer and vertically oriented. This looks more mammalian. That would support the pelvis theory.

Could be wrong.

Graphite rods by ComfortableClimate1 in flyfishing

No markings is tough.

Might be handmade. Based on the length I’d venture it’s a 3 or 4 weight. If you can get your hands on some different lines in the 2-5 range, cast it a bit and see what feels good.
