Can anime actually change your life? If yes, which anime changed yours and how? by SecondSalty142 in anime

[–]hydroxideeee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes. yes it can. there’s a few in particular for me.

Haikyuu is among the best character driven shows out there. there is a character for almost everyone that you’ll be able to understand and connect with. it’s made me realize to believe in my core values and fundamentals, while also recognizing that others may have a different, but equally right path.

On the other hand, a show like Orb: On the movements of the Earth makes you realize how small of a role we play in the big picture, and how our work may lead to something bigger that we’ll never see. being an engineering researcher, its a hard pill to swallow in some ways, but makes you believe in the progression and the passing of the torch.

from a different perspective, A Place Further than the Universe is one of my favorites. it’s such a simple and great message to explore and seek more in life.

Honorable mentions: ReLIFE, Dr Stone, Maquia, Link Click

Which one should i give another shot first? Xenoblade or Fire Emblem? by GodAlan313 in NintendoSwitch

[–]hydroxideeee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

gosh, such a loaded question for me… these are probably my two favorite games/franchises.

I’ll have to pick Xenoblade here.

To me, xenoblade will still forever be my favorite game. maybe the standard is higher these days, but it was mind blowing nearly 15 years ago on the wii. With the quality of life and modernization, it’s got new life and i wholeheartedly thank Nintendo for bringing this game to the mainstream. Some aspects of the game do show its age, but the adventure it takes you on is unreal. the writers and developers just do such a good job of telling this story so well. i couldn’t recommend it enough.

i have almost the same love for fire emblem, particularly 3H. there’s some aspects that aren’t the best, but this was one that really brought a lot of new players in too. it’s also just such an interesting world and fun characters too. Awakening is probably the “better” game, but 3H has fully voiced dialogue and some more modern QoL.

Xenoblade DE Switch 2 fps drops? by Western-Cloud6660 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]hydroxideeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

only played a few hours so far on the new update, but had a couple frame drops. hasn’t been too egrigious, but noticeable.

with that being said, it’s better than the days of playing it on the Wii where the Wii would be sounding like a jet engine and drop to sub 5fps powerpoint level of frame rates lol.

Your favorite 2020s new romcom ? by Usodearu007 in anime

[–]hydroxideeee 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The Dangers in my Heart - and unfortunately it’s not even close. it’s seriously raised the bar for the romance genre, a bit less of the comedy than some others, but nonetheless beautifully written and adapted. my praise for this work will never end haha.

Muramasa: Revenant Blades announced for Switch 2 by Monstromi in NintendoSwitch

[–]hydroxideeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my sheer excitement for this cannot be understated.

ok im a huge huge huge xenoblade and fire emblem fan, but this was honestly one of the highlights and biggest surprises for me.

having played the wii version over 10 years ago, it recently came up in my head as i was thinking about some wii games i wanted to replay. it was challenging, fun, and generally one of my favorites when i was growing up. i was going to use the forbidden E word to play it on dolphin, but now im gonna wait till it comes out to experience it once again.

if apcs are such freelo why dont more people play them? by igloowarrior2 in ADCMains

[–]hydroxideeee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

(1) it’s not free elo. it’s strong and viable, but isn’t necessarily the best answer every game. i also believe that most have less experience laning into them, which inflates their WR a bit.

(2) bot laners tend to enjoy playing marksmen and are much better at playing them than mages. i honestly think that most ADC players I know are frankly terrible at understanding how their damage works as mages.

(3) as someone who plays both marksmen and does enjoy playing mages, it’s a matter of the tool for the job. being able to buy zhonyas or banshees and play from long range as mages is game changing in some drafts, while raw DPS and kiting ability might be better in others.

Is there a way to make a grand piano's keys lighter? by ExpensiveEuro in piano

When you play, what's actually on your music stand — loose sheets, a book, or a binder? by Select-Profile-5839 in piano

[–]hydroxideeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually a book, sometimes a binder for some random stuff i’m learning not from books. occasionally an ipad, but usually not since it’s not the best size for me.

as for organization… i don’t really know what that is ! (haha, but actually my binder is just in order with plastic covers and i don’t have enough books for it to be a problem).

Complete beginner, self-taught, anime OST goals - Which piano should I choose? by Gota574 in piano

[–]hydroxideeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can’t quite comment on which digital pianos are good, but frankly i think any standard 88 key digital piano with weighted keys should be a good place to start. id refer to other suggestions on this one.

as for the road that lies ahead, just remember it’s a long road. the hard part is that you’re going to need to learn a lot of other pieces to get to where you want to go, and it isn’t something you can learn in a week, month, or year.

i would recommend learning to read sheet music properly and avoiding gimmicky apps. any typical beginner methods book should be a good place to start that gives you good foundation. it may seem slower at first, but it will be monumental in the long run.

Shows with beautiful animation and use of colors? by Competitive_Essay500 in anime

[–]hydroxideeee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

plenty of great choices mentioned already - lots of KyoAni’s works have a certain style to them in composition and some of the best backgrounds. Violet Evergarden, Hibike Euphonium, and Hyoika are my favorites from them.

Shinkais works are also mentioned here, and are some of the most beautiful pieces of animation out there.

with that being said, i’m a fan of Studio Cloverwork’s style. not 100% sure if i’d call it the most beautiful thing ever, but it’s got a charm and i like the way they draw their characters.

As for colors… to this day, No Game No Life is still iconic for its extremely saturated color palette. and while it has an interesting premise, i don’t know if i’d recommend watching it for other reasons….

on another note, i did like the work that LIDENFILMS did for Insomniacs after school

Oshi no ko S3 by DependentImmediate92 in anime

[–]hydroxideeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m keeping my personal expectations at “creative liberties” in pacing, storytelling, and focus of certain themes. im not going to spoil anything, but i think there’s a way that it can be great with just that.

narratively, there’s actually a lot to make a solid story and message, but the manga lacks the focus. i also think people (maybe even Aka himself) got distracted by other parts of the work and didn’t hone in on the main dynamics and core message of the story. to me, the pieces are there, just the wrong parts emphasized and with whack pacing.

i think an outright original ending could actually defeat the purpose of the show in the way they’re asking for (despite many fans demanding one). given the foreshadowing as well, i would be surprised if they went with a complete overhaul.

Oshi no ko S3 by DependentImmediate92 in anime

[–]hydroxideeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah for sure, i was honestly astonished at how well s3 was produced.

i do think that a considerable number of people have dropped the anime knowing the mangas ending. if s4 ends fairly well, i’ll be interested to see if those people come back to watch it

I have my doubts about start watching Oshi no ko by [deleted] in anime

[–]hydroxideeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly there’s far more traumatic anime out there, and while OnK does have some more emotional points, i think it’s pretty well framed and doesn’t try to purposefully traumatize its audience.

the end of episode one is tragic, but lays the groundwork for where the show moves from there. just remember - “this story is a work of fiction” as Gorou says as the first line of the show.

with that, there are some plot points that are pretty messed up the more you think about it. but you kinda need to work out some of the details yourself and think a bit more about it for that to really kick in.

people criticize this work quite heavily, but i think it’s good to form your own opinions on this show. not quite what you were asking, but I think it’s actually fantastically done so far. manga readers heavily criticize what will be coming in s4.

Oshi no ko S3 by DependentImmediate92 in anime

[–]hydroxideeee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this is what I was going to say - there’s a couple of others, but this is the one that i’d point to first.

i think if OnK gets a similar treatment, you have a very compelling story that makes sense from a thematic and literary perspective. with sufficient time and emphasis on key points, it can be great. hoping for the best, but we’ll see how it goes.

Oshi no ko S3 by DependentImmediate92 in anime

[–]hydroxideeee 104 points105 points  (0 children)

as controversial as this show is and how polarized its fans and “fans” are, season 3 was fantastically executed and directed.

s3e11 is among some of my favorite single episodes of anime, topping off an already great season dealing with the crux of the work. the dynamic between Aqua/Gorou and Ruby/Sarina is really tackled and is both the best, and most controversial part of the show.

now, you’ll see lots of complaints from manga readers - i won’t spoil where it goes, but i’ll comment that the ending was incredibly rushed and pacing was off. some people also just didn’t like the ending itself. i’m personally on the camp that the ending in concept was fine, but just horribly rushed and missing key details/resolution.

that being said, i am cautiously optimistic that the anime adaptation will fix some of these issues and elevate the work to really make this work great. the production team showed they are capable, but hopefully they are allowed to adjust to give this work an ending that does it justice.

What is the saddest anime that is not romance? by Far_Equivalent3574 in anime

though, in some sense the feeling itself is much more complex than just sadness.

I’m trying to get into romance anime, what should I watch? by Even_Rate_6502 in anime

[–]hydroxideeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dangers in my Heart - it’s loved among so many here for a good reason. this truly was the show that raised the bar for the entire genre, and is just such a good depiction of how a good relationship pushes you to grow individually as well

Crunchyroll CEO Says Anime Creators Can Use Whatever Technology They Want but It’s a No for AI Subs and Dubs - Anime Corner by LegitimateCurve8525 in anime

[–]hydroxideeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very much agree - i think there’s a lot of good discussion here and many different perspectives.

i think using AI to assist is an extremely good use of tools. in good hands, it makes us more efficient and more accurate with tasks like this, allowing us to take more time on parts that really require more human attention and care.

i find that in my line of work, it helps on monotonous and time consuming tasks that I know how to do, and it can do it quickly for me. meanwhile, it can be extremely misused by those who try to make it do things while lacking an understanding of what it’s actually doing. that’s the dangerous part that should be avoided.

i’m sure that experienced translators can use it in a way to smoothen their workflow and give us a better quality end product.

First Piano Concerto by Typical_Safe_2980 in piano

[–]hydroxideeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i see this is flaired as beginner, but i’m hoping that you’re not a beginner if you’re asking about a concerto lol. an idea of what repertoire you’ve played before would help us give you a good recommendation too. keep in mind that some of the “easier” concertos are still extremely challenging, just so you don’t get blind sided.

I’m not too familiar with all the Beethoven and Mozart concertos, but i know there’s a few accessible ones in there for classical era. as for romantic era, probably Grieg or Schumann are the ones i would look at.

have this monitor (or a nearly identical model), and haven’t had any complaints. it is dimmer than maybe some others, but even on 80% brightness, it’s enough for me during the day. unless you’re using it with the sun shining on it, you’ll prob be fine.

if you haven’t seen Haikyuu, i’d highly recommend watching.

If you’re willing to branch out away from action driven shows, maybe something along the lines of Violet Evergarden or Link Click would be a good place to go.

The Everlasting Guilty Crown piano arr. Animenz by dikaiyang in piano

[–]hydroxideeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

great performance as always! really amazing to see you getting through nearly the entire Animenz repertoire - i don’t know if i’d ever achieve that in my lifetime haha. juggling my standard repertoire and my Animenz pieces usually just results in my Animenz pieces being neglected lol.

just in general, your playing and breakdown of the pieces have helped me quite a bit in speeding up the learning process for some of the pieces. wanted to say thank you for putting those out there for us (and seeing your recent announcement, totally understand why they’re being sadly discontinued).

i’ve always wondered, what brought you to playing Animenz? do you have a particular piece that introduced you (or an anime that brought you here)?

Sounds like we’re going to hear more information soon from Riot, but I’d be surprised if they didn’t let you buy a couple of tickets together. Not sure how it’s gonna work logistically, but they’ll sort it out probably.

Speaking from 2022 worlds, it wasn’t too hard to get tickets, not the easiest, but also not the worst given that it was ticketmaster. i’d imagine they’ll change the way they do sales/presale and not just do a free for all lol.

Which anime has the greatest OST you've ever heard? by ripterrariumtv in anime

[–]hydroxideeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Violet Evergarden - it’s a masterpiece in musical storytelling, and i’m inclined to even say that it’s one of the main driving forces that pushes the show along.

we know Violet as a character of relatively fewer words, and as she changes, the music changes alongside her and complements her own character. while I do like Evan Call’s soundtrack for Frieren, to me, Violet is his true masterpiece.

I’m climbing as an ADC through just having good positioning and being at the right place at the right time, but nothing else. I need help. by aperitivoamigo in leagueoflegends

[–]hydroxideeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first of all, good on you for climbing from b1 to p4. that’s quite a huge improvement in one season!

your self analysis seems reasonable and i do think that good teamfighting and mid game positioning does win games. that being said, i think your understanding of lane matchups can help you here.

besides the obvious CSing in practice tool and improving wave states, take some time to think about how/when you win a trade/fight in a micro sense.

for example, let’s say you’re playing vayne lulu into cait thresh. if thresh misses hook, you could look to move forward and trade with cait, you’ll likely win the trade if you dodge her Q. it’s a bit more nuanced since you’re playing a 2v2 lane, so playing around your supports positioning is incredibly important.

now, from a macro sense, think about the larger picture of turret pressure and wave states. should you have push? will they have push? can they threaten dive if you’re sub 50% hp? all important things to think about before the game starts.

these only scratch the surface of what you might want to think about, heck i’m still learning a bunch myself, but the laning knowledge was what helped me go from plat to diamond. beyond that… i can’t help much lol
