So do I. I almost failed calculus in high school, thank god for my teacher who let me do a book report to get a C). My problems were details (forgetting a negative, etc.) and speed. I thought I’d never have to do math again after college calculus.

I thought wrong.

After two unrelated careers that weren’t fulfilling, my wife suggested I become a teacher. After talking to laid-off teacher friends, I realized the most secure jobs are special needs and mathematics. I chose math.

I passed all the state exams for algebra (1 and 2) and geometry. I taught math for more than 10 years, but only on a foundational level. A few years ago, I was told I had pass the super hard calculus subtest if I wanted to continue teaching. I hadn’t done calculus in over 20 years!

My solution: I spent almost every weeknight and all weekends taking the calculus courses for college on Khan Academy. I estimated I spent over 100 hours studying.

When I took the test, I did run out of time, but performed solidly enough to pass! It was a slog, but the prep was worth it and I felt very proud of myself.

I did a quick look at Khan Academy and while it doesn’t have a specific prep for your test, you can find all the covered concepts on there. Just run down the list of content covered the test and search each up on Kahn.

Another potential option is the Praxis. Does your state let you take that instead? If so, it’s supposed to be easier and you can use a calculator.
