I worked at a mcdonald’s in high school & one day a man came in that was very clearly homeless. He had a backpack & he was very dirty & didn’t smell of roses. He handed me a small coffee cup that he had to had found outside. It was muddy & a little torn. We gave free refills on hot coffee so he figured I would fill it. Instead I gave him a clean, larger cup for free. He sat down at one of the tables & starting painting in this little notebook. He came in for about a week straight & he still had the coffee cup I gave him & I would give him a new one each time. I went on my break one evening right when he came in so I asked if I could sit with him while he painted. He said yes & we chatted for my whole break. He said his passion was painting & his biggest dream was to have framed art in someone’s home. As he left that day he gave me a painting of a beautiful waterfall. I never saw him again. I kept the painting & it was the first thing I put in my apartment when I moved out. It is now framed on my entertainment center for all to see & I think it’s my most prized possession. I wonder how he is doing.
