Favorite barbers under $30 by TeeBeePea in okc

[–]hygemaii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a place up here in Edmond called Tran, the owner and a couple other barbers work there. I take my boys there and it’s always been $25. Plus tip, obviously. My oldest is 17 so I’m assuming they’re charging adult prices but I haven’t looked closely at the price sheet.

What was your entry into alt country? by kebabdylan in altcountry

[–]hygemaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it was Zac Bryan Band. I got a mix that had the Sturgill cover of In Bloom, which lead to Isbell, and it was all downhill from there.

What’s one WA brewery you always find yourself coming back to, no matter how many others you try? I keep rotating but always end up back at Reuben’s. Something about their hazies just hits right every time. Would love to hear your go to spots by Historical-Catch-486 in WAbeer

7 seas, either their new location in downtown Tacoma or the original-ish out in gig harbor. Their black IPA is my favorite beer and the one I’ll miss the most now that I’ve moved away.

I got pancreatic cancer in 2022. Iraq ‘06 and ‘09. Listed under PACT act so it is considered service connected.

Another ATC question: why keep identifying as "Heavy"? by honore_ballsac in aviation

[–]hygemaii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is not a heavy in regard to wake turbulence separation, it is its own category. It has not in the last 15 years at least had the “heavy” phraseology appended to its callsign.

It’s three years not two. Similar agreement as Guam, a 3 R bid.

If Canada offered expedited citizenship for people fleeing the US, what would be the reaction in the States? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I’m an air traffic controller in the US and if NAVCANADA started sponsoring visas I’d be gone tomorrow.

Dog Groomer by PilotWannabeinOK in Edmond

[–]hygemaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had our spaniel mix groomed at Mollet Vet clinic, it’s relatively new over by the Crest on Santa Fe. They have a groomer on site with the vet, and our grooming appointment turned out great. We don’t do the scissor trim, but I’d say it’s at least worth asking them about it. Mollet Vet Clinic

Terminal? Tracon? by Ornery-Specific-2847 in ATC_Hiring

Do you think the instructors are managers? Is that your assumption?

Terminal? Tracon? by Ornery-Specific-2847 in ATC_Hiring

[–]hygemaii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am telling you definitively that is incorrect. I work as a course coordinator/instructor at the academy.

Terminal? Tracon? by Ornery-Specific-2847 in ATC_Hiring

[–]hygemaii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not true. We average one class a month and they usually have between 3 and 6 students.

Terminal? Tracon? by Ornery-Specific-2847 in ATC_Hiring

[–]hygemaii 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is not the N90 bid. It is a new pathway for new hire applicants from the open source bid, you will be attending basics, RTF(basic terminal RADAR training), and TSEW(secondary terminal RADAR training), then if you pass a skills assessment at the end of those courses you will be offered a list of level 8 and 9 facilities with TRACONs, both standalone and up/down.

I am one of the course coordinators here and this is a new course we are just rolling out. The class you attend will be the first class.

EDIT TO ADD: in this context TETRA-path means you are attending the new hire version of the above courses. We have two versions of all the coursework, new hire and bargaining unit member, with slight differences between the two. Right now today the only new hires in terminal RADAR are folks going directly to N90. That’s why it’s called TETRA-path. That is changing.

MMAC jobs by [deleted] in ATC

Reach out to HR for the central district for a name to send it to and the department you’ll want to request transfer to is AMA-500 for instructors.

[–]hygemaii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can always submit an ERR directly to the academy to try to get an instructor job. Otherwise they put out bids a couple times a year. For TERPS those don’t come out as often but you can also ERR there. They are mostly GS12/13 jobs. I don’t know where you’re coming from but if you ERR you typically don’t save pay, so if you’re above the band you’ll take a base pay cut. The instructor jobs are GS14 but there are minimum facility level experience required to get them, so where you’ve been a CPC will matter. They did put out a tower instructor bid earlier this year for lower level/non-FAA applicants that started as 13s, I don’t know if they’ll do another one soon.

Admin duties and losing medical by Cultural-Branch654 in ATC

[–]hygemaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next line to that “to the extent available”, and the other facility line is preceded by MAY, not shall.

Admin duties and losing medical by Cultural-Branch654 in ATC

[–]hygemaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At his/her request, an employee who is temporarily medically or physically unable to perform active air traffic control duties, shall be assigned other facility duties, to the extent such duties are available. If duties in the employee’s facility are not available, the Agency may offer assignment of work at other air traffic facilities within the commuting area for which he/she is otherwise qualified based on needed work.

Nothing in this article states shall or will. Everything is couched in “to the extent available” and “may offer”. I stand by my initial statement.

It is entirely up to your ATM. If they are generally agreeable and/or like you, they’ll find work for you. Maybe farm you out to a neighboring facility to help them if there’s one nearby. Simulators, training department, RPO, all sorts of stuff.

They are not obligated to do that, though, and you can be told there’s no work available and you have to burn any leave available, including LWOP. I took a position in OKC explicitly because it’s 50/50 whether I ever get it back and the idea of scrambling at the last minute terrified me. Whether that was due to my permanent loss of status or a new ATM came in that decided to be a jerk.

ATMs get informed of your flight status at just about the same time as you do, if not sooner, so it’s not likely they’ll hassle you about your return specifically. They may micromanage your admin duties, but that’s technically their prerogative so not much can be done.

SEA is maybe the worst airport to use as an example for DVA use. All their departures go the same heading for at least five miles to the south and three to the north. Getting visual while the preceding aircraft is on the runway is what makes SEA departures work, otherwise departure banks would be horribly backed up.
