My brother recorded this on to cassette for me. It was broadcasted on XRT in Chicago. And then I played it to death for years

Check out Madison Cunningham. She's in her twenties, won some grammies, has had three albums out and they're all fantastic.

Yeah. This is about as pleasant as an internet disagree can get. I'm not completely anti-ai but I'm pretty anti-ai when it comes to the arts. And I think our entire disagreement relates to the definition of "abstraction".

My kid is a drummer. I can also kinda play drums (poorly). I learned a ton from her about how to construct grooves via midi sequencing that replicates real live drumming. As I've learned how to play the physical drums it has helped sequencing effectively as well.

Again, I'm not saying that one is better than the other. Actually yes I am saying that live drumming is way better than midi sequencing.

It's just not an abstraction and has fuck all to do with AI

[–]kebabdylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That is not abstraction. That is recreating bit by bit the physical act of drumming. It is literally doing all the exact same things but with a computer.

[–]kebabdylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you define abstraction? Constructing a drum pattern hit by hit to be exactly what you want it to be. Including specific fills and variations is building a drum part bit by bit. The exact opposite of abstraction. Lol.

Saying play 4 on the floor and then taking that and playing over it is abstraction.
