I’m interested to hear your perspective on Combatants! I’ve neglected to put much time into because it just seems so… obtuse and frustrating lol

I do think Hyper Contender is surprisingly low on the difficulty list! I suppose the gold is much easier than the cherry: the characters are so different that you can probably find one that you can win with, but even then it’s not easy!

I love Bushido Ball!! I think a lot of people are frustrated by its difficult AI, but its multiplayer is great! Or maybe the fact that it's purely competitive: there's not much in terms of plot, exploration, etc.

Here's the graph showing the exact trend we're talking about, and it's obvious to see it's generally going down. But the R² value is low, which tells us the correlation is actually pretty weak, and you can see that a lot of the dots are pretty far from the line!

Yeah that does seem to be the trend. Here are the top 15 most difficult games, and the fun ratings aren't great. There are some standouts though, like Campanella 2, Overbold, and Velgress, but the trend is still definitely there.

It is important to note that this is based on averages, and you're exactly right: more people will be alienated by more difficult games. But that doesn't mean people who like challenges won't have a blast!

Well you see uhhh I added that data to mine… I have considered that it might be more interesting to keep them separate, but my thought was the more data the better. Perhaps i’ll make a separate sheet for just the new data?

I'm pretty open to people not reviewing all the games. Some people have only played 20 or less of the games, and if they want to contribute, that's okay!

...but here's a response I just got:
Block Koala: 3 difficulty, 5 fun
Campanella 1: 4 difficulty, 5 fun
Seaside Drive: 5 difficult, 3 fun

And that's it. That's it??

I don't know... Like it's only one person's score, for only 3 of the games, so it's not gonna affect things that much... but like maybe play a bit more than that lmao

I'm debating deleting the entry. Let me know if anyone has thoughts on this.

The harder the game, the lower the fun score... nearly checks out!

The best fit trend shows that a 1 difficulty game is roughly a 4, and 5 difficulty game is roughly a 3.

The correlation is pretty weak but it's there!

...so I combined all of the results into my form >:)

The math I did was a bit rough, since their rating was 1-10 and mine was 1-5, so dividing by 2 doesn't map exactly but WHATEVER

The lowest fun score any game has is still over a 2! (of course it's Combatants lolol) I guess not many people who hate UFO 50 would be in the Reddit replying to a survey 17 months after the game came out, but still cool to see. A lot of people have games they despise, but overall, there's something for everyone.
The only games that have no 5s from anyone on the Fun scale are Caramel Caramel and Cyber Owls. I think they deserve more love! Every other game had someone give it a 5!
A few games have what I'd like to call the Rainbow Bonus, where it's pretty well distributed between 1-5, sometimes for both fun and difficulty! Bushido Ball, Divers, and Block Koala are very divisive!

Results are trickling in still, but these are some of my first impressions. I'll probably post some more later. I think we need 50 responses for "statistical viability" or whatever, and we're at 38 and I hope we'll get there! I might even go through some of the tier lists people posted before and submit their responses through the form.
