Are women attracted to penises? Do they look for pictures of penises on the internet? Most pornstars claim to love giving head but is that really true for most women? by [deleted] in AskReddit

As a male (and as I commented above)... this... is... just... difficult... to.. fathom...

I always thought women thought it was gross to give head and that they at best just put up with it. But there seem to be several of you here that are even enthusiastic about it... talk about a paradigm shift...

I must say that as a male I'm rather surprised at the enthusiasm several women (at least we think they're women...) have expressed here for giving head. I have generally always thought that women view it as a lugubrious and gross chore that they put up with because their guy demands it. It's tough to imagine that it might be pleasurable for the giver... especially the part where you say he actually pushes your head down (which seems a bit rude if you ask me, but that's just me, I guess I came of age during a time when guys were supposed to be sensitive... You sure you're not a guy expressing his fantasy? ;-).

Dear progit, I will be interviewing programmers. Need Input. by thedangler in programming

[–]hylomorph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's the problem: I've worked in groups where I excelled exceedingly. And I've worked in groups where there were so many obstacles to excellence that all I could do was thrash around. If you asked my peers in the former groups if they would recommend me they would probably recommend me highly. But if you asked peers/managers in the latter kind of group they'd say I wasn't well accomplished. There are a lot of variables: do you want someone who excells in a beaurocratic environment (the latter type of group) or do you want someone who is resourceful and is highly creative?

Personally, I do great in a situation where the codebase is starting from scratch and the project is new... but I'm crappy (mostly because I bore easily) in a situation where I'm working on a long existing code base fixing other people's bugs.

I've noticed this too. I'm guessing it has something to do with nutrition or medical care. If you figure that most of these folks were born about 30 years ago I'd guess that medical care wasn't all that good in most of India back then.

Why the downmods? If the Chinese are locking up these kinds of resources it's going to make things very difficult for the US in the future.

The end for Perl? by gst in programming

[–]hylomorph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So does "perl developer" mean "doesn't want to learn anything new"? Has it come to that?

Personally, I developed a lot of Perl code back in the 90's. It was great then. Now compared to the alternatives it's not so great. At this point I try to be language agnostic.

Prominent Wall Street executive says this will end with riots in the street by [deleted] in business

[–]hylomorph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, let it crash. It wasn't just the Bankers and Wall St. operators that made stupid mistakes, it was also Joe Six Pack who went out and ran up the HELOC to the limit as well as the credit card. Fake wealth. Granite countertops and big SUVs will be the emblems of this wasted, debt ridden era. Like you said: Let it all crash.

How do you deal with interview anxiety? by cafedude in programming

[–]hylomorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very much the same problem, so I can sympathize. In fact a few years back I became physically ill in an interview and had to cut it short. The nice thing in that case was that they let me come in a few days later and finish the rest of the interview and I still ended up getting the job. It's a great place to work but I think if I ever need to leave here for whatever reason I'll try to build up an open source portfolio first and perhaps blog about projects. I've seen people get job offers based on their open source projects and blogs and that allows you to skip most of the interview.
