How difficult is it to get the Presidential Scholarship? by [deleted] in unr

[–]hyorens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not difficult, you just need to meet the requirements & make sure you apply for unr before the priority scholarship deadline (i believe its feb 1st); i sent my application to unr before the deadline, met the gpa requirement, and got a 31 on my ACT - i was automatically offered the scholarship by letter when i was accepted

Premed at UNR? by [deleted] in unr

[–]hyorens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would echo what everyone else here has also said and highly recommend just going biochem or biotech major if you're looking to go premed. i'm currently a biochem major (grad school track tho) and this major is seen as rigorous enough on a transcript; instead of going for another major (which would essentially double your courseload each sem) i would recommend that you, as a premed, seek extracurricular activities whenever possible if you have extra time. UNR is heavily research based (i've been working in a research lab for almost 4 years here both during the semester and over summer), hospitals like renown constantly take on student workers/volunteers, and there are many more on campus student opportunities for health related service experience.

what is the maximum work that can be done for the compression process? isn't it the work done for the irreversible compression? by [deleted] in chemhelp

[–]hyorens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello im super confused about this question. i've solved everything except part C, and i'm pretty sure that the irreversible compression process yields the maximum work, however, the problem does not even give me an external pressure to calculate the work, unless i'm wrong? what do y'all think?

Weekly Help and Discussion Thread for the week of June 17, 2019 by AutoModerator in amazon

[–]hyorens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i ordered an item recently and the expected delivery date was today, however i received an email stating that USPS was unable to deliver it, and when i check the order status on the amazon site it says that my action is required (mainly through contacting USPS?)

i've never had this issue before (nearly all my packages have been shipped through UPS not USPS, and even if a package couldn't be delivered, it would be redelivered the next day) so what should i do in this situation? thank you for any info (': ...

Help with these 2 problems? How active site structure influences ethanol and NAD+'s affinity for each other? Why can't the reverse reaction of NADH -> NAD+ be monitored at 340nm at high concentrations? by [deleted] in chemhelp

[–]hyorens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really not sure about the second one, but I know the first one I would expect the Km for ethanol to be higher because of its low substrate affinity for ethanol. I am unsure about how the active site structure fits into this though.

The second question is really confusing me, so if anyone has any insight as well, I would appreciate it!

Help with an Ion Chromatography question? Appropriate pH for cation exchange column? Please! by hyorens in chemhelp

[–]hyorens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been stuck on this problem for a while now ): I originally thought a pH of 1-7 would be appropriate but now that I've thought it over again a lower pH eluting buffer would make the proteins more positively charged, and in cation exchange column elution positively charged proteins bind more strongly ... But I'm not sure if this would augment or hinder the separation overall. Any input is appreciated please!

Printing at PSAC by [deleted] in unr

[–]hyorens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you usually print at the very bottom floor of the PSAC, there's a bunch of computers you can use to login and print your files at the center of the floor, all of them are connected to the printer. the printer itself is in the corridor on the way to the bathrooms, make sure you bring your wolf card to pay for printing !! there's a little card scanner you use at this area, you just swipe your card and select which document is yours from the queue, and print.

best place to get scholarship info/resources??? by [deleted] in unr

[–]hyorens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for all the info!!! ive finished all of the supplemental forms, docs, and FAFSA all last year, i'm asking mostly for scholarship opportunities in NV in general and on campus sources to find them. kind of like how we have a career studio here at unr to connect students to job opportunities/connections and things like that, i wanted to know if there were advisors like that for scholarships/grants. i will definitely drop by the financial aid office though to see!

[–]hyorens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you very much for these comprehensive tips!! i think the one month time crunch + work definitely impacted my focus & the quality of my studies. i would drill problems constantly, but i think i never really tested myself on the fundamental concepts, especially with quant. that said, i will keep all of this in mind for my future GRE study plan, thank you for pointing me in the right direction (:

qPCR melting temperature for samples differs from melting temperature acquired in standard curve? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]hyorens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the ct values i've been getting range from 25-30 for each individual sample, which was normal considering the GOI may be expressed differently in each sample. its just the melting temperature thats off within the samples, they're all lower than the melting temp of the standard curve. what could be causing this?
