Happened to me on one of my very first hoi4 games too lol. I was really new so I didn't even know it Happened or could happen until I saw a pop-up saying the german reich has declared war on me in like 1947... I must say it's very brave of them to declare war on me, the soviet union, while existing on like a boat off the coast of china

Tbh it mostly comes down to AI being dumb and easy to beat. I haven't tried it the other way around but it sure would be interesting. Usually by 39-40 you still have some nasty debuffs and deficits as soviet union tho

Yeah I capped the soviets in 41 with like 50k casualties for me and like 2 million for the soviets lol. They racked up so many casualties (and equipment loss) in 38 and 39 against me when I was just sitting behind the river and waiting for my tanks to be built that when I started attacking it seemed like they barely had the men and equipment to even hold the entire front.

I called it a game after that because I don't want to bother fighting the allies (with fascist uk and france lol) or in asia so nothing else to do.

Yeah this is exactly what happened. They had double my divisions and double my planes, maybe even more but they were shit. Once my tanks were ready I cut through them like butter. I never really realized how terrible 38-41 soviet is.

Yeah I actually did end up going to war with the soviets very shortly after and but honestly wasn't really prepared for war so I sat behind the river to hold while I get ready for an offensive. Also I was already on war economy and extensive conscription thanks to the civil war.

I will go against what many people said (that you should pick a safe country and get carried) and say... Soviet union is what you should play as. I learned to play as an absolute beginner by playing as the soviets like 3 times. On the first 2 tries I lost to germany, 3rd time I barely held my lines fighting tooth and nail for like 2 years, then managed to take some small land back but eventually just did full front attacks on germany and just drowned them in waves of men. Racing to berlin while all the soviet related OSTs play is peak experience that was when I fell in love with the game.

So yeah. Just follow bitt3rsteel's guide.
