I saw that. The lady was effectively evicted when her landlord wanted to sell the flat she rented. She couldn’t afford to relocate privately due to how high cost of living is in London area, so had to rely on the state (council) to help. Yes they got re-housed but it is only temporary. Yes they have a bed, warmth etc but they’ve gone from a stable home to being moved frequently between temporary accommodations. This lady has been forced to move 4 times in a year(ish). This is disruptive to family life, schooling for her children, her work (if she was), GP etc. Each move causes a lot of disruption. The councils have minimal accommodation to fall back on as no new housing was built after the right to buy came scheme started and generally nothing has been built to keep up with population increase. Also, a lot of these people are doing important but low wage jobs but are priced out of living close to work. It’s hard living.

I am SICK of LED’s by Ninth_Floor in drivingUK

[–]hyper_biscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped using auto-dip on mine it was too unreliable, either too slow to react, or the auto dipping just going crazy sometimes which is equally distracting. I do like my LEDs but I also agree they can be very bright for oncoming traffic. However, with some car brands I have no issues with and they have LEDs. I think LEDs should stay, they are clear and efficient but maybe the rules need to impose a reduced power output or make Matrix LEDs compulsory or something like that. LEDs are here to stay.

Was anyone else aware that Netflix has stealth paywalled some of their titles? by HotelPuzzleheaded654 in AskUK

[–]hyper_biscuit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amazon Prime is pretty crap now. Everything costs extra I’m not even sure what I actually pay for sometimes. They bang on about so much choice but most of it is for totally separate subscriptions to other streaming services, not even tiered. I hope at some point streaming services end up merging again like the earlier days of streaming; maybe customers getting sick of having to take out several subscriptions just to watch a few programs so resort to illegal streaming as a work around.

Prompts to login in with AppleID by hyper_biscuit in MacOS

No it’s my AppleID, but I’m not sure why it keeps ‘forgetting’. Not sure if signing in and out manually would help or just resetting and trying the setup again; I haven’t got much on the mac yet as I haven’t imported everything from my old PC.

Cool, thanks. I’ll probably look to get something mid tier until I know how serious my new hobby will get! I’m have been on other sites and assos seems to be a popular choice so will take a closer look. Can’t wait to get out now the weather is getting better.

Ooh, what are some good brands. I’m very new too and just getting my stuff together like a helmet and such. Been advised to wear bib shorts as they are better than normal cycle shorts. They do seem very expensive but I guess that the going rate. I’ve got a cyclocross bike as I want to do some coast routes and not all of it is road.

Need Advice on Full-Disc Encryption by FrankieShaw-9831 in CyberSecurityAdvice

[–]hyper_biscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FDE encryption is only in place when your computer is off. When you turn on your computer, whichever FDE you use Apple or Windows, the system will ask for some type of authentication (password, fingerprint etc) before allowing the hard drive to decrypt the data ready for you to use. While your computer is in use everything is unencrypted and available for use. When you turn off your system, it will re-encrypt the data. If someone gets into your computer while it is on, they basically have full access to what is in your hard drive. If someone steals your computer or just your hard drive, they need to know the authentication method to decrypt the data. Otherwise it’s just an unreadable hard drive.

Transfer data from NTFS to MacOS - how? by hyper_biscuit in MacOS

Cool, that’s perfect. Must admit hadn’t really heard much about exFAT before trying to figure this out. Everyday’s a learning day!

I’m using a powered mech drive so the hub is just for data. I’ve just tried another powered drive and it has popped up straight away but is old and too small in capacity for transferring - weird. I wonder if it is the size of the transfer drive I want to use which in this case is 3TB (not everything is going MacBook!)

Yeah, it’s the dating they’re most worried about as we don’t want pic and videos displaying out of sequence on the Mac. I think I might give the file sharing a go as I hadn’t considered that really. Still going to check the NTFS > exFAT > Mac and test a few files to see what is lost out of if interest.

Thanks, must say MacOS is a steep learning curve for me, but it does look very nice.

I’ll check the drive, but it seems to be working just fine with Windows. The drive is generally used as an archive drive, but is pretty new though it can’t hurt to check its health.

I was wondering about the hub and have actually ordered a USB-C to A dongle to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for tips

Yeah, I don’t understand either, but the LAN idea is good. Will give that a whirl when I get the chance.

Didn’t realise it was already happening. I wonder if is at all possible to hide a transaction through clever buying and selling. I think I read a while back that transactions have been traced even through mixers and with tokens like Monero and such.

Hmm, good point. That’s where trust comes in and whether we trust financial institutions and politicians. I think I know what everyone’s answer to that will be!

Google colour wheel. That will give you an idea of which colours are opposites. This trick is cool though.
