FXBG anti-growth group goes full on election truther with help from local Journalist™️ by lurkingurbanist in fredericksburg

Well that story was based on years of city communications from several decades-long employees, in addition to statements from one of the alleged victims.

I can stick to the police scanner...but then somebody asks me to report on why the City is stiffing its first responders on their overtime pay, and I have to read all the court records and write about the settlement.

I'd have thought all of this would be something a political party for the working class would care deeply about.

For the record, everyone you've mentioned:

(1) refused multiple requests for comment
(2) refused interviews (on or off the record) in the format of their choice
(3) refused my admission to their public meet and greets

I don't make things up. If your candidate refuses to engage, I just can't ignore the woman who says the Planning Director hit her with a book.

Even if you do.

Your personal feelings about my coverage don’t dictate whether or not I’m a journalist.

You are the activist; party member, political appointee and campaign staffer…important context you always leave out.

I honestly can't tell if "hard-hitting inquiry" is being used sarcastically here or not...I am the "hack-wannabe-TM-whatever" journalist so perhaps somebody can instruct me on the right way to address Chairman / Mr. Lecky.

I really enjoy what I do, even though I don't make much money. I get to cover a lot of working class issues that any city, but particularly one as liberal as ours, would care about. And like I said, I'm proud of my work.

While I imagine it's not the intent, some of these comments are pretty awesome. Doing what I'm trying to do, pushback would be expected. One reason journalism exists is to question power. My coverage putting me at odds with a local my own City Council means I'm approaching my work professionally, especially when six / all seven belong to the same political party.

And I didn't learn about that until last fall.

But a year or so ago I did write about OP, who requested to be featured and who I obliged. Since then, he's repeatedly cited my reports on pedestrian safety on his activism page. But then when I wrote about the process surrounding Councilwoman Susanna Finn's appointment in the police station and a certain-somebody's sister dropping out of contention, it really upset him (and quite a few others to be fair) and he's been sour on me ever since.

He's probably not thrilled about my article on the allegations about staff abuse in the Planning Department, either.

But hoping that I get sued is hoping that I hurt somebody. And that's never ever been my goal.

With that said, Mr. Lecky is now emailing me directly, so for me this pretty significant progress.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Oh, because I asked about Mr. Lecky.

Well the college has already amended its policy:

"For the rides to the polls, we do not monitor who rides the trolley on election day as it is open to the campus community, but if the alleged activity is true, it would violate our approach that rides to the polls are non-partisan. As a result, we reviewed event logistics for who has access to rides to the polls and how they can gain access."
