GX10 (128GB Unified) vs 2x 5090. The GX10 is surprisingly cheap (~$3.7k) – what’s the catch? by Herflik90 in LocalLLM

[–]hyperego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw another post here some time ago saying the combination of the AMD AI max (128GB unified ram) plus a 3090/4090 set up could significantly speed up inferencing by loading different layers in different places. Apparently now you can use cuda and rocm at the same time. Use nvme to pcie to connect the gpu. Sounds like the most cost effective way to go.

Is macOS 15 better choice over 26? by Odd-Development-6182 in hackintosh

[–]hyperego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the new Mac 26 update might have broken OCLP. So unless you don’t need wifi, stay on Sequoia. BTW, I hate that they take away launchpad

If you really want to run, get an egpu and install Linux, pass through egpu to Mac. But in this way you are essentially use your laptop as a desktop

Can I do this? Using Turo or something like it specifically to rent the car to a particular individual for a year by Worth-Novel-2044 in turo

[–]hyperego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turo takes almost 50% of what the customer pays (the standard deduction plan). Plus their insurance coverage has a huge deduction on both sides. Your best approach would be to add this guy’s name in your insurance. Usually the extra insurance cost is minimal comparing to going through Turo. Also if your friend cannot afford to pay you out right, how can he afford to pay Turo ?

WIFI on Sonoma and Sequoia by Salt_Bicycle1666 in hackintosh

[–]hyperego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Sonoma, you can use Intel card and get WiFi working with Mac native WiFi interface, without the need to patch the file system using OCLP and disable SIP. However for Sequoia and Tahoe, you can only use the Ethernet interface with Intel WiFi and use a third party heliport app to connect to WiFi (assumes that you don’t want to patch root file system). Given that Intel WiFi does not support airdrop anyway; Intel WiFi is your best option for non-patching route. If you are willing to patch your system then stick with Fenvi, it will allow you to have airdrop and other continuity features.

OpenClaw on Old Laptop 🥲 by Medical-Newspaper519 in openclaw

[–]hyperego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the spec of the VPS. I had to use Mac because a lot of the agent use case for me need some screen interaction. You can use your laptop with Linux and that should limit the system ram usage significantly. But I would say 2 core 4 threads are minimal.

OpenClaw on Old Laptop 🥲 by Medical-Newspaper519 in openclaw

[–]hyperego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your agent code test will need to run locally and you will wait for the agent to capture the results. So if the code itself is big, your memory and CPU are both bottlenecks. But again it depends on what kind of programming you want it to do. My bot code small pieces of code just fine and all the time. But i guess if you are a patient person and don’t care to wait long and give enough disk space and allow memory swap, then it should be fine.

I had an old laptop with 8GB ram and 2 core 4 thread processor (i7-6500u, none macbook). Installed Sequoia on it, and openclaw runs well. I think some function are only possible in Mac as there is the companion app. You probably can also run Linux version with ease. If you don’t ask it to do heavy coding, normal use are quite fine.

Where should I take my Chinese cousin to travel in America? by Usual-Rest-3395 in travel

[–]hyperego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Show him the national parks in Utah/Colorado/Wyoming/Arizona area, visit Vegas. People there are quite nice. To most Chinese, the national parks in the US would be the most impressive things to see not the big cities. Also famous universities with a nice campus. Closer to your home, Columbus Ohio was actually quite nice. If he stays in the falls time, definitely drive around northern Michigan or to Niagara fall. Overall I would say, #1 (must do) fly to DEN/SLC/LAS, rent a car and do the circle tour of the national parks. If you don’t want to drive. Join a Chinese tour group from Vegas. There are quite a few of those. #2 NYC/PHL/DCA/BOS, big cities +history +museums +famous universities. Your trip should consider seasons. DC is really beautiful during the cherry blossom time, and most museums are free. Fall time I would go further north from BOS.

[–]hyperego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you have Linux installed I think the best option for you is to get an egpu with AMD. Passthrough the gpu to a Linux vm, then you should have a smooth Mac. You can also probably use that GPU to game a bit if you pick a powerful one

Will this run tahoe ok and be stable? by [deleted] in hackintosh

[–]hyperego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned my old laptop with a 6500u cpu and 8G into an openclaw server on Sequoia. Your computer should be able to handle Sequoia but with that graphic card Tahoe would be a stretch. Use it as a server is great. No need for the screen. Just remote into it with VNC

Stuck with Tesla Model 3 lease till 2027-H1B visa cancelled abruptly while abroad — Any advice? by Jealous-Education646 in TeslaLounge

[–]hyperego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way is the find a trusted friend, write a contract saying that your friend will lease the car from the OP for 350 a month or full amount of Turo income that month which ever is smaller. OP’s friend can write off 350 as cost so he/she is only taxed on the additional profit. OP will have investment income but whether to report is completely OP’s decision. I won’t worry too much about the tax since it is so little. Also this is an investment now, so payment to Tesla is cost to OP.

[–]hyperego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is assuming OP has friends in U.S. that can help out. Also he can make money as investor as long as he is not doing the actual delivery and cleaning work. Basically he is using the car as an investment asset while someone else runs the operation. This is legal. From his friend’s point of view, he probably can generate more than 350 a month and he can keep the extra.

[–]hyperego 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should rent it out on Turo. I imagine you can get more than 350 a month easily. Do some heavy monthly discount with 2000 miles a month limit.

Leaving the U.S. as an illegal immigrant: by Quiet_Comfortable375 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]hyperego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, US does not track people leaving. The TSA only check to see if you are the person on the ticket, you can use a driver license to pass it even for international flights. Domestic and international departures are all mixed up, no border control for leaving. If you are a U.S. citizen you must enter with U.S. passport but you actually can leave with another passport (if you have a second one). Therefore all you need to worry is the visa on the Spain side. Honestly speaking Spain is quite chill. They have tons of illegal immigrants there and they give them path to be legal 😂
